Description

New in my Etsy shop. Wanted to post this on Juneteenth but it was a REALLY difficult pattern and I ended up posting a day late. (Took me two weeks between some major freelance projects to get it the way I wanted it.)

A concrete example of why Black Lives Matter. The character of Nyota Uhura has been such a tremendous inspiration to women both Black and White. The first Black woman to appear in a position of authority as a permanent character on a TV show, she embodied hope that someday women of all colors would be regarded and treated as the equals of men, and allowed to live the lives of independence and adventure we were qualified for. As portrayed by the incomparable Nichelle Nichols, she was smart, strong, efficient, versatile, and competent without sacrificing her femininity. Beautiful without being sexualized, she was treated with respect by her male commanders and crewmates; and even in the rare moments when she admitted to being frightened by the dangers they faced, was relied upon to do her part with courage and intelligence, and never failed. She was one of my earliest role models, and for that reason I have chosen her as the first of my Women of Space series.

Proceeds from this pattern are being donated to NAACP and #BlackLivesMatter . You can buy the pattern here: www.etsy.com/listing/813513458…
