Very impressive, there's so much to take in, it's hard to look away.

I think I see two heads sort of stacked on top of each other, or at least lips with eyes and then sort of square boundaries....kind of makes me think of a burning reel of film at first thought caught at a very specific point where all the chemicals are in contact. Just an interesting patch at the top left that sort of digs into the above area I like this one.

I like the idea of a burning reel of film. I can almost smell it. It would be really cool to incorporate film into a painting. I should go look for some! Thanks for the idea, Ian!

The smell of burning film ...I really wonder how you interpret it, I bet it has a lot of range of story to it. It does kind of carry and then linger in with that but in concept it's not always a smell you want :3, burning progress and memories so much story to it, you have me wondering now Sarah You're welcome . You're other picture time melt makes me think of the concept a little bit, the start of it maybe anyway :3.

I'm trying to put it into words, but i'm not exactly sure how to, but I can picture this smell. I wish I could just transfer thoughts and images instead f words.

I gotcha...lol I wanted to find a sniffy icon but every word I was thinking of wasn't coming up with anything I guess I can't find the middle ground ...I have burned a a few sections before by accident while on the job at my previous job as it got tangled in the projector and I was working on other things, it gets caught and then just sits there and the lights beams through and then there goes a nice burnt whole in a a brief fraction of a second of film. My manager enjoyed those moments hehe *^_^*.

Nice. How was the smell? I've seen film with burn holes, I kind of like it, actually. There is something oddly charming about it.

lol interesting one to really like but I really like that ^_^. Hmm as a smell though, it's kind of hard to say directly, kind of tart with a bit of sawdust in there kind of like you were burning glue and paper together or something. It might be the closest I could get lol, because there was a chemical kind of smel but then it just had this heat and rot sort of thing going on but I wasn't there initially so this might not be totally accurate. That would be a fun group project actually I think :3. Charming is a unique description I can see that though there is a whole process to it or layers and charming would at a draw to it .

well first off yer ipod touch takes terrible photos for documentation purposes. The photo is blurry and the darkening in the upper corner seems to be an artifact of the camera or lighting and not caused by the painter's hand. All that said it's a solid abstract field painting. I like how i'm not drawn to any one particular area compositionally. The thick texture and evidence of violent strokes helps the overall effect. I wish i could relate the title to the image - i start to imagine the painter walking through thick paint but i'm just not seeing that in the image. The 'stepping' becomes more metaphorical then, which leaves me wondering if the artist is talking about a stage in her process or just formal application of paint to the canvas.

I appreciate your honesty, the camera does suck. I will be buying a new one soon, and will re-take this photo and probably a few others. The darkness in the upper corner is actually in the painting, although the poor quality of the camera and some shadowing played with the look, unfortunately. The title has more of a personal meaning than an obvious one. I started art school and this particular painting is coming from the mindset of stepping back and forth between what is comfortable (abstract) and what I must do for school.

i know the 'serve the masters' feeling of art school. don't let that take your art over. it did mine for a long time.

It's a tad frustrating. Sometimes I feel like i'm being trained to become a couch painter.

yes 4sure. the real spark of art cannot be taught - however the skills are deceptively important in the long run.
