Description Pencils: Marcio Abreu
Inks: Izaak Wilson

Original Pencils: [link]

I found this on Marcio Abreu's DA site and decided to ink it in. At first I thought it would be easy but then it became difficult when I started working on the hair and buildings.

You should keep an eye on the lineweight. Try to distinguish more the different levels and make the characters pop up (example: do the characters lineout bolder in some parts).
Then I see a bit of difficulty with the hatching, looks like you are worried to do them wrong and so they look a bit... uhm, "steady". When you work on them try to be more spontaneous (it's only a matter of time and practicing, of course)

O_o is this really a photograph? It looks like a scan. You balanced the b/w very well.

Yes most of the inked pieces you see on my site are photos because I don't have a scanner in my home. So I take digital photos and then clean them up as best as I can in Photoshop.

I will try some of the things you have suggested.

I inks are nice on this. Though, I don't think you got the shiny enough on the black cat's outfit. Spider-man's fabric looks a bit too sketchy in line work. Maybe some more solid ink on the muscle areas and feathered out. Over all, very tight and clean work. Though the posing bothers me. That is not your doing though. Keep it up!

I tried to get Black Cat's suit to look good but I was having problems with the hair and some of the line work. The original piece looks better than what I have here because I don't have a scanner. The line work on Spiderman and solid inks are there but because I had take photos of the piece instead of scanning it didn't come out as good as it should have. I did try cleaning it up a little bit in Photoshop but still I think with a scanner it would have looked better than what it is. Yeah the posing I couldn't go much about because that was on the original from Marcio Abreu. My wife won't let me get a scanner because she says we can spend our money on other things we need right now since our finances are tight for the next year. Hopefully I will do better on the next several ones.

Oh course you are going to get better! Just keep at it. If you put 10 dollars away a week, in six months you will have enough money to get a copier, scanner, fax machine. It won't do the 11x 17 size but you can get around that. Just take your 10x17 pieces to a copy machine and shrink it to 8.5x11 and then you could scan it in. Keep up the hard work! you only improve by flexing the art muscles. And yes, I know the finance thing...it has us all.
