Description An alternate reality of my home country's naval force of the Royal Australian Navy. This only contains the major surface combatant/bluewater fleet, so the coastal defence ships and auxiliaries like tankers are left out as the list would be too big. Here's some of the info on how this world works:
-In 1984, Australia was allowed the nuclear secrets from the United States Navy for nuclear-powered but conventionally-armed submarines. It wasn't until 2005 the first of the Australian-built Virginia-class nuclear attack submarines, known as the "Collins-class", are commissioned. (IRL: The US Navy has offered 5 Virginia-class SSNs to the RAN as a stop-gap before the AUKUS-SSNs are completed)
-Two of the Oberon-class diesel-electric attack submarines dating from the late-1960s/early-1970s are still in commission despite being around 60 years old. The fleet of six began decommissioning 2015 with Onslow and Otama still in service by 2023. (IRL: The last Oberon-class was decommissioned in 2000, with that being HMAS Otama. Two, Onslow and Ovens, are preserved intact while the remainder have been scrapped, with Otama now being the latest victim of a failed museum venture)
-In 1982, HMS Invincible was bought off the Royal Navy as a replacement for the aging Majestic-class aircraft carrier HMAS Melbourne, and renamed "HMAS Australia". She serves and the RAN's flagship. (IRL: This almost happened, only to be cancelled by the Falklands War)

All ships in this RAN would still be painted in the same grey used by the IRL navy.
