Blessing/Curse: Immortality

The crystal flickered and winked as Kevin lifted it from the ground. How it had rolled from the table to the ground she wasn't entirely sure, but there it had been laying and now it was in her hands she didn't want to set it back down again. The young woman stared at the wand in her hand in fascination. Sunset leaned over his stall door to watch her, curious about the object glowing in her hand. She flicked her wrist and a shock of mauve light erupted from the pink crystal. The joker gelding snorted and withdrew as the bolt struck him. The strangest sensation of ice melding against his flesh without pain flooded through his body from the point of impact and he tucked his chin to nip at his chest.

How odd....

Again Kevin flicked her wrist, turning around to face Sunset. Before he could react the gelding was coated in a mauve light. He closed his eyes, uncomfortable with the brilliance. When he was sure the light had faded he opened his eyes again and the light was still there but it wasn't painful. Curious he tried to step away from it. Or see beyond it.

He couldn't.

So he waited. After what felt like hours the light finally faded but faint shimmers remained along his body, legs and face. Almost like stars twinkling in the night sky. He watched his knees glow for a moment, then his belly and hips. When it finally stopped Sunset wasn't sure what to think. That was so very odd. And he felt.... weird. Disconnected somehow. Like he was floating in a dream while walking around at the same time. Unanchored. It was the strangest feeling he had ever experienced and he wasn't even sure how to bring it up to Whiskey, stalled next to him.

With a sigh Sunset turned his attention to his water bucket and snorted, spooking away from the reflection. It was a shadow of his face with a set of bright star-like dots at the center, between his eyes, and his nose and on each ear tip. Whiskey stared at him quizzically and even Kevin turned her attention from the wand that was 'doing nothing' to the horse spooking at 'nothing'.

"Everything alright, Sunset?" The woman asked him, moving closer. He snorted and pinned his ears at the wand in her hand, making her retreat with the glowing crystal turning brighter in reaction to his gestures. His attention turned back to the bucket and he stared at the starry reflection then turned to Whiskey. Did she see the stars? The mare turned fuzzy in his vision, a dark light enveloping her. That darkness became a mist and a haze of her skeleton became visible under the flesh. Sunset blinked and it was gone. When he turned to Kevin the woman echoed what he'd seen on Whiskey - a dark mist, a flicker of her skeleton, then normal. Everyone he looked at, for the first time since Kevin started playing with that wand, every one of them flickered with that brief glimpse of death and then nothing.

What was going on?

Was something wrong with him?

With them?

.... Was death coming?

I really wasn't sure what I wanted to portray and I really liked the idea of Immortality, but it's really difficult portraying that early on before they figure out what's going on (i.e. before others die and he remains unaged) and then I thought 'Constellations have been mapped for hundreds of years now... Don't stars kinda represent long lives? Being celestial and all that, and associated with 'heaven' in so many religions? THUS THE IDEA WAS BORN ( the alternate was Death retreating from Sunset but I really didn't feel like animating anything that large xD )
