Ok. First of all, it's a wonderful picture. Very well thought through and planned by the looks of it.
Now, the Quilava looks absolutely amazing. The shading is first-class and relevant to the lava's glow. However, the flames on its body could have been given a little more attention, as Quilava is the main subject of the picture. For example, you could have given the flames a bit of definition or make it look like they were attatched to Quilava's head a little better. Don't forget that fire has its dimensions also and you can't forget shading or lighting on those parts! I'm not criticising, I'm just saying that if you may have been aiming for the fire to stand out, then you did an exceptional job, although just remember what I said.
As for the background, you're definitely improving; I can see it from glancing at a few of your older pieces of work. The only possible improvements that I can see with it this time though are the sky and the lava. Yet again, what I said with Quilava. The lava/fire needs a little bit of definition. With the sky though, it could have been blended a little better, especially with the smoke rising from the volcanoes. You could have made the smoke darker near the top of the mountaintop and gradually lighter as it rises into the air. You could look at pictures for inspiration or get other people's opinions on what you should do. Not all the time, but it's good to get some suggestions occasionally.
Overall, you've done a very excellent job on this picture. I can see the effort that went into it :3
Keep at it, bro, I can see you rising to the top!
