Description So this morning I spent 2 hours reading the magnificantly written and illustrated Batman: The Long Halloween (which I now plan on buying the Absolute of). After I logged out because I thought I'd finally get some sleep, I was instead inspired to draw Harvey Dent as we all know him now, Two Face.

I went into this blind. I didn't really plan this one out. I took an old comic backboard (kiddies, never throw these out for they make great canvases, even if they are as old as you are. Seriously, I think this board is as old as I am, or at least boardering on 2 decades. Anyway, back to the details) and taped it down to a masonite drawing board. I then sketched out his face in 2B pencil and a 9B lead pencils, starting with that glorious white orb one calls as eye. Then I lightly inked out the face and suit with a Pilot Permaball permanant pen. The, sharpies. Lots of sharpies, of silver, black and red. And then the gouache from my travel kit. Lots of that, too. After the painting, more pen work to enhance the inks, and then colored pencils for added tecture and colors. I was going to use oil pastels, but the colored pencils showed up better than I thought they would, so the pastels were not needed.

Holy shit, that was a lot of work. Man, I really liked that story. I really want to get that eventually (hint hint).

And yet, in little time. Somewhere between 60 and 90 minutes, lost track in my sleepless daze.

Permanant marker and pen, cheapo gouache and even more cheapo colored pencils over 2B pencil and 9B lead pencil on a very old comic book backboard.

This thing's going to give me fucking nightmares.

And I still believe in Harvey Dent.

The Dick Tracy villain Half-and-Half was handsome on one side and heavily scarred on the other. He did NOT, however, base his crimes on the number " 2 ". Another parallel was in his 2nd appearance, his face had been repaired and was handsome again, BUT the surgery did NOT cure his criminal behavior which predated his disfigurement. He took revenge on a woman who betrayed him and she threw industrial cleaning agent into his face, instantly changing him back into Half-and-Half.
Harvey Dent was rendered normal also, but his disfigurnent was restored.

Every new Two-Face looks more like - Half Face (face totally destroyed om one side. Skull exposed.)

Awesome!!

and I love the story Batman: The Long Halloween too. The story how Harvey Dent became Two face, his justice and evil sides is very moving.

Thanks for nice work!

The huge eye is almost hypnotic. Also reminds me of Penguin's monocle which is scary in itself.

Harvey is looking rough and good.

GodDAMN that is an amazing interpetation of Two-Face. I'd kill to see your version (or just you in general) on a Batman book at one point.

Me? Draw a Batman book? Never happen. Would love to do an abstract pinup that gets printed one day, though. Actually, after I finish a few pieces, might just attempt that.

I'm thinking of selling this piece.

Wow, that is pretty good! Me likes a lot too. Can I say thought one little ting maybe but it's more being nit picky about this, his big eye... Probably to big and bug eyed looking a bit to much. The big bug eyed look seems to take a little of the seriousness if you ask me. But again a very good picture! Nice work

Thanks. The eye does the opposite for me. Makes him more horrifying.

I can see where Jimmy's going--I liked how in TDK it looks more like his complete eye without the lids. The huge eye is a bit on the edge between creepy and cartoony.

Perhaps if I detailed the scars differently it might seem more horrific. This is, I started with the massive eye and built the image around it. For me, the whole focus from the start was that wide, somewhat distracting eye.
