The only real similarity with X-Men is that the powers are genetic in their explanation. It isn't a mutation, though, and they aren't (and never were) humans. Each member of a species has the same abilities, too.

Looks like i'm not the only one who had the idea of using legends and fables for the plotline of their original story. I like how you made him a Sphinx and i can't wait to see how you handle any situations with him and his abilities.

Yeah. I took a look at what you have of your story right now and I'm 100% certain that we won't step on each other's toes. Yours is going to be far more action-packed as far as big scary monsters and stuff goes. All of the characters in Sphinx look exactly like humans, with almost no distinguishing characteristics.
It'll be more like Death Note than an action-packed murder spree.

Yeah no i was almost positive we wouldn't step on each other's toes in this. Mainly because i am going to be remaking many legends in my own image and even if we do have similarities in things we will still have our own writing styles and ideas as well as plotlines. That's cool that yours are human.
Lol i don't know if mine will be an action packed murder spree per say but it will definitely be action oriented. I can't wait to read yours by the way and since you obviously can pay for yours more then me lol I'm sure many people will enjoy your much more hasteful releases. So good luck with your project!!!

Like Rarin for instance is a Leprechaun, but he isn't a mini sized person who guards a pot of gold. However i do interpret some of those things in a different way. I view it as the telephone game people played as a kid. People talked about the creatures when they saw them, but instead of writing them down so when it finally was written it wasn't exactly like it started instead how the legends are now.
Well i currently am about to pay for more pages as well as in may i will as well. I have just been to poor lately to afford the pages so it was on hold. I've written farther though so when i do pay Lariz can turn it into pages without waiting on me.

The telephone game!
That's a big part of how I view the legends, as well. In my world, people saw human-like individuals with incredible abilities. Their minds couldn't understand how people could do something like that, or they didn't see the source of the powers clearly, so they made up these incredible tales of large beings and unknowable monsters in order to cope with what they witnessed. Over hundreds of years, those stories became the legends that exist now.
In my manga, these creatures are all indistinguishable from humans. There is absolutely no way to tell if someone is a phoenix, for example, until they die.

Wow great minds definitely do think alike i guess lol. Yeah i like the route you took it's very unique and definitely a different approach then i took.
I kind of wanted to make sure they were still creatures because i feel like i am less limited with the appearance of a character because some of the races i use can be way out there like my Golems for instance and other races which i bet you will notice when/if you read it. Some legends i also didn't change the appearance but maybe abilities and vice versa while some that i think are fine i leave alone.

I definitely like the idea of there being terrifying creatures in the shadows. That's something that always makes people interested in reading a manga, and I bet that you'll do really well if you continue along that route. It might also give you a chance to have widely varying appearances.
I'm trying to play with legends from around the world, taking major parts of their stories and boiling them down to their essence. A phoenix, for instance, has nothing to do with fire. They can be reborn and the same number has existed throughout time, unable to breed but unable to die.

Yeah i like that you are bringing it to the core route of it. So i take it that there will be a human who when dies another one is born with the same abilities soon after? I'm glad you are using American and universal names as well. Because i kind of get annoyed by anime that seem to think when there are legends that it only would reside in their area as apposed to expand throughout the world.

You mean a phoenix? When they die, they burst into flame, destroying whatever happens to be around them. They then reform within an egg as a matured teenager with the same ability.
I don't like that in manga, either. The world is too big to not use all of it if you're setting it on Earth. It's just people being shortsighted.

Ah that's cool so then there is no way to make a pheonix cease to exist. Well from what i can see from what you told me at least. A pheonix villain would suck lol.
I know that my manga will be spreading throughout the world though it will start in America just because that is what i know so i can describe the schools and housing that Zaiy lives in. By the way how did you think of a last name for you character? I'm having trouble with some of my human character's last names.

A phoenix can't be killed traditionally, no. I'll reveal more about how they're dealt with in the manga. Haha. I don't want to ruin the fun.
I kind of just make up last names, to be honest. I found that thinking about them too much makes it impossible, since you always end up not liking the way that it sounds. Other people don't think of it the same way. It's usually just the creator of the character name that can find flaws in it.

Yeah i was thinking of giving Zaiy a simple last name like Hayes or something. I might even just not ever mention it for a while seeing as how most characters in my story will call each other by either a codename of first name since it's uncommon in most places to call someone by last names unless it is formal. Oh nevermind i like Micheal as a last name Zaiy Micheal sounds decent.
So you planning on getting commissions of other characters for your story? Kind of hinting towards them a little bit?

See? Those names sound great to me, and you probably had to wonder about them. Any name that someone slaps together is going to generally sound awkward to them since they made it up. To everyone else, it's not something that needs questioning. It's just that person's name.
I plan on jumping straight into the full thing, to be honest. I'm trying to find an artist who can do it in the style I'm aiming for.
