Description Quoted information -

The rainbow rose is a rose which has had its petals artificially coloured.

The colouring method exploits the rose's natural processes by which water is drawn up the stem. By splitting the stem and dipping each part in a differently coloured water, the colours are drawn into the petals resulting in a multicoloured rose.
The rainbow rose has been developed by a collaboration of two dutch companies, River Flowers and F.J. Zandbergen & Zn. Together they formed Happy Roses to produce and market rainbow roses.

River Flowers started as a cultivator of chrysanthemums. In 2004, they developed a method of adding colour to the petals of chrysanthemums and applied for a worldwide patent.

Zandbergen is a large company which specialises in everything to do with roses. When they happened to come into contact with River Flowers in 2006, the colouring process was tried on roses and found to be successful.

First and foremost, I would like to give credit to ...

*EliseEnchanted

... for taking these amazing shots of rainbow roses. The one I've referred to in this drawing was this -

Before I continue, I would like to apologize if I hadn't asked for any consent earlier to use the photo, and I hope that *EliseEnchanted would appreciate the humble work I've done.

First of all, this work is fully watercolored, with only limited use of pencils and a white colour-pencil for shading. I admit, this is my FIRST time doing a full-blown artwork with watercolor and it felt rather intriguing to understand the medium I'm using.

Unlike pencils, the fluidity of the water element makes for its difficulty in controlling the strokes, especially for a person who's only held pencils all his life. One thing though, is that water covers large areas easily than say pencils, so it didn't take too long before proceeding to other parts of the picture.

I did read a little tutorials here and there before I actually started, or rather I read them in between breaks while waiting for paint to dry ... so, I guess I had sort of an idea how it goes about, even though I'm a newbie at it.

Welp, I guess that's what I personally have to say about this piece. I hope everyone can enjoy it a bit.

P.S. It looks nice when it's minimized, but when it's enlarged all sorts of roughness can be spotted. I'm just saying :b

Thanks, but I feel that the colors are a little too illuminating after adjusting the colours in photoshop, feels unreal.

You're not a beta of premium. That's why you don't have extra privileges of putting a thumbnail in your comments. Yeah it just shows :thumb170525231:

Congrats on your first piece of watercolor work! Well not bad for a beginner. I wouldn't have the patience. "Waiting for paint to dry..."

Gonna submit it as portfolio?
