Soooo, I was coming to make a listing here but uh, it's sold already [>.< <3 =kawaiimon ] so I'll just show it up because I'm rather happy with how it turned out D:

I've been calling it a phoenix gorget but really, I meant it to be a peacock -haha.

Hand tooled leather [with ye olde trusty awl and the back of a paint brush] -original design done freehand, then dyed in red and deep, chocolate brown.

I'd originally planned to make a pauldron with this design, but the style I'd planned for it didn't work with the way I was drawing the bird so I went for a gorget instead. I still plan to make that pauldron, I'll just have to come up with a different design because I don't want to repeat this again on such a small scale [the tail feathers - omg x__x]

As you can see in the shots above where I'm holding it, it's small - 2.5 inches across maybe? 3.5 at most, and only 1.5-2 or so high. The metal ends have 2 adjustable chains with dangly tear drops that jingle every time it moves [sounds so pretty and it was completely unintentional -lol]

I had a hard time giving this one up, but I'm really happy with where it's going. I expect lots of pics ;3;

Also, single, detail shots can be found ->[HERE] on my Flickr.

Oh wooow. I saw this on your Etsy shop and came back here to take a closer look on your DA gallery!  I'm a leather mask maker and I am in awe of how you managed to get so much detail into the tooling of this TINY TINY gorget with an awl and the back of a paint brush.  It's difficult enough as it is to keep details crisp on the larger stuff.  Insane!  This is a gorgeous piece.  I love the color and the design.  The metal is just a perfect accent with its shine.

may i ask what you use to make it stay in that shape and be so shiny and have a lacquered look?

It's tooling leather, so the shape stays by whatever it is they use to cure it. After dying it, I seal it with an acrylic leather sealer, which gives it the shiny look.

This is so amazing... and so tiny! You should do something like this full scale - I'd wear it every day.

Just out of curiousity - what's that little statue who's wearing it? He's really cute.

Looks great - I agree with u on teeny tiny detail work.

out of curiousity, is it lined, or did you just trim the edges at an angle? It looks a little fuzzy, and I was wondering if you had used tragacanth (oh i can never spell it) or gum arabic on it, or if you had considered painting the edges with a dark paint, the light and the red don't mesh well to me.

the tooling is amazing, especially at that size. I look forward to seeing the pauldron as well, but it's a fantabulous gorget!! Excellent work XD

Thanks ^^

It's lined with a soft brown leather [which is what you see sticking out from the red parts] <-in person, the two match up color wise better than it does in pics, I had to lighten the pics a bit to get the detail showing since the red is a few shades deeper than shown.

I didn't use the gum/traga?- I don't on anything I do. The gorget is dyed inside and out, plus edged, with the soft leather to line so it won't stain the doll itself. Everything save the soft leather is sealed with satin finisher.

Hopefully I'll be able to get to the matching pauldron soon, I had alot of fun making this one, I just need time for others xD

you might consider using the gum/tragacanth (w/e) on the edges - it will help to smooth them. I haven't really lined any of my work and have not had an issue with it.

I can definitely understand lighting lol some dyes just do not photograph well. ~_~.

You could also try a spray sealer for your pieces - I've noticed that I have better luck with them not bleeding than with the liquid variety.

Can't wait to see the pauldron, for sure!!!!!

Now I have to go browse your gallery mwa ha ha haaaa

I love the detail so much. I'm always amazed at what you can do with an awl and the end of a paintbrush.
