Description
I first began constructing these in January, and the completely finished product came out of the kiln in September. Mostly that's because they're big, but I also haven't sculpted very many birds before. Also I took awhile to decide on the black and white underglaze with the clear coat on top, because I really didn't want to screw up in the final hour. At the end of the whole process, I love them! I gifted them to my parents as a housewarming gift.
They are two separate pieces, and each one is nearly two feet long including that huge beak. They are Egyptian Ibises. I really like how the black underglaze turned a bit blue, and the small amount of manganese wash I used under the white underglaze makes the wings stand out pretty well. Are there things I'd do differently next time? Yup. But I'm still pretty impressed, lol.
