Damn. If I had had an artist like you back ten, twenty years ago to draw our parties at leisure... I might not have gotten out of the gaming scene. Lovely piece.

Too many changes since I got out twelve years ago. But... the last group of people I played with... there were death threats, violence, drugs, and a massive amount of immaturity over the seventeen years I played and... I lost all interest in dealing with it again. But... I have some very very fond memories over those seventeen years. But a lot of pain in that same time too. A lot of pain. An online friend steadily pushes me into trying it out again, I'm just not sure if I want to even try at my age. We will see.
Apologies for rambling >////>

You added plenty of details and people. That in of itself makes this awesome!

I never played any of the modules, DM's I've encountered liked to build their own worlds, and some were downright terrifying, or at the very least paranoia inducing. Still lots of fun. Does that mean I'm a glutton for punishment?

Years ago one adapted a module called the "City State of the World Emperor", I think it was called into the most dangerous and paranoid game setting I've ever played in. It was fun, but after a while, you were longing for a nice simple "Monty Haul".

first DM I ever played with used to put rooms full of wraiths in his dungeons. You listen at the door and hear a moaning sound, low level characters, wraiths bad mix, so after a few encounters, we heard moaning, we passed on the room. Later when we leveled up a bit, we hit that dungeon again, and started kickin' those doors. half the time the room was empty, but it had a fireplace, and the moaning we'd heard and been the wind. Occasionally, there'd be unguarded treasure. It was a great lesson in perception.

Sneaky DM... yeah wraiths are definite nasties. We've encountered some in the dungeon we're in now. Our cleric is powerful and has been able to handle most things, but not everything. Some wraiths he was able to drive off, but now we're looking over our shoulders in case they've come back to ambush us.
Our DM doesn't go for much misdirection like the moaning fireplaces, but he likes puzzles. Navigate the pattern on the floor to safety type things. Always keeps us thinking.

that's better than one who encourages party members to betray and kill each other, I played witha DM like that for four years, of course he and most of the party were also Diplomacy players, and I think they brought that mind set with them.

it makes for a much more relaxing game, and everybody seems to have more fun. The best one I ever played with ran this fantastic Space 1889 game, we played it for nearly five years, it was never dull, and nobody worried about other players stabbing them in the back.

it is nice when everything comes together, in life as well as gaming, it doesn't happen very often, so I make a point of enjoying it when it does.
