Like many Bas-Lag fans I went out and bought up the latest issue of Dragon magazine to take a look at their conversion of the universe of China Mieville's novels. But for me it was less a matter of reading the article so much as seeing the illustration. As a long-time illustrator of Bas-Lag's denizens (having obsessed for quite a while and put a good deal of thought into my designs) I was disappointed and concerned...mostly becuase it was essentially the first time anyone *else* had tried to visually represent the races of Bas-Lag. I wish I could get in contat with China, because I am so obsessed with desigining these characters, but the designs in Dragon were....grrr....ok, enough bile and ranting :/ Anyways, I was particularly weirded out by the Wyrman design, so I immediately went out and began to develop a design for the Wyrmen that I could be happy with. This is not it, but it was a first step...this will give you a little insight into how I develop a design like this when you see the Wyrmen 2 page...enjoy!

Oh, and also a really awful Garuda head ...I need to look at birds and not make them up
