Description

ErichMees  and KeithAlanMorgan  suggested: Lynda Carter Wonder Woman meets Adam West Batman and George Reeves Superman

Again, I'm putting this as 'traditional' rather than 'digital' because all of the hard work went into the pencils, not the colouring.

Excellent likenesses. George Reeves Superman was the most authentic to Siegel's Douglas Fairbanks/Harold Lloyd charming Superman and Lynda Carter Wonder Woman was the most authentic to Marston's matriarchal Amazon woman/symbolic American lady liberty Wonder Woman.

Adam West's Batman as The Avenger, on the other hand ...well, I would have swapped to Michael Keaton Batman as The Avenger (technically he was on live-action TV specials Batman: The Making of a Hero and The Bat, the Cat and the Penguin). Keaton's Batman was the most authentic to Finger's original Zorro/Shadow mysterious lethal outlaw Batman - we weren't meant to take Adam West Batman seriously, his was a comedy parody of the '40s low budget Batman movie serial cliffhangers and parodying the goofy Silver Age Batman comic books with Aunt Harriet, etc. I do love the Adam West Batman show for laughs, in the same way I love Young Frankenstein. In a classic monsters line up I wouldn't seriously put Peter Boyle's Frankenstein monster instead of Boris Karloff's Frankenstein monster.

I think DC should really make a Superman '55 tribute comic book like the wonderful Wonder Woman '77 comic book series.
Michael Keaton already has his Batman: Official Comic Adaption and Batman Returns: Official Comic Adaption, and Adam West has his Batman '66 comic series.

A Superman '55 comic book seems like such a natural idea after the Batman '66 and Wonder Woman '77 comics, I'm surprised DC hasn't done it yet.  It would be cool to see George Reeves' Superman doing stuff on the page that they couldn't have managed in the fifties with the limited budget of the TV show, fighting superpowered criminals instead of gangsters, introducing more elements from the comic book lore, etc.  You might have seen this already, but at jimnolt.com, there's a fan comic based on "Superman and the Secret Planet," an unproduced movie script from that era, and it's quite well done.

I love the Superman and the Secret Planet web comic! www.jimnolt.com/splanet1.htm

I get the feeling that DC's current boss' Jim Lee and Dan DiDio are not fans of classic George Reeves' Superman, but they should be hiring that guy, Randy Garrett, that made that web comic to do an Adventures of Superman '55 comic series! Pete Poplaski, Steve Rude and Neal Adams can also capture that George Reeves' Superman look. Darwyn Cooke would have fit the retro style but sadly he passed away.

Did you see this George Reeves' Superman comic by M. Anthony Gerardo, published by Blue Water Comics? comicboxcommentary.blogspot.co…

I feel like I have seen the Gerardo comic before, but I'd forgotten about it, so thanks for the link.  I agree; the artists you listed would all would be well suited for a Superman '55 comic.  I met Poplaski once when I was a teenager attending a week of summer art camp at UW Green Bay.  He was friends with my instructor and brought in some linework he'd recently done for a book of Superman comic strip reprints.  He actually seemed interested in my work (god knows why) and asked if I had a sketchbook he could see.  I lied and said I didn't have it on me, but the truth is I was just embarrassed because I had some sketches of naked women in it.

I think likely all of us comics art guys, if we are honest, have drawn our share of nude women. I even took at collage class where I was required to draw nudes. I see no sin or sexism in it, but I'm neither a religious conservative or a second-wave feminist.

I love those Poplaski covers for the vintage Superman newspaper strips.
