Actually you're half correct since it did involved the F-14 TOMCAT. But actually back in the late 80's early 90's while the YX-22 was being developed and tested, talks were being held to see of the possibility to have a Grumman/Lockheed replacement for the F-14 TOMCAT. Now it would of still retained it swing wing design but it would have an internal weapons bay like the Raptor has. But those talks never got any further as spending went more towards the Raptor program.
