Awesome angle! I love interesting perspectives in an illustration.

Lovely piece of work. Think I've seen some of your stuff in ImagineFX which I'm collecting now to improve my skills. Love the shadows and tones in this piece. Illustrations are one of my favorite types of art and is what I thrive to achieve at. Keep it up!

Thank you SnowdustDragon.
I love illustration as an art form too. I guess it's the fact that narrative content (storytelling is usually implicit). ImgineFX is a great place to look for ideas, tips and inspiration (and yes I have been fortunate enough to sneak a few bits and pieces in there occasionally).

Just keep at it if you really want to get on in the field. Perseverance and hard work go hand in hand with making progress in that and almost every field. Best of luck with your studies (we are all students, whatever stage of a career we are at - or ought to be).

Hey, I didn't realize that I'd seen your work before. I did one of the Step Inside pop-ups for Fernleigh Books (Alice in Wonderland). You can see it on their Classic Tales page, but sadly I've never been able to find anyplace where I could actually buy one. No sooner had I received my complimentary copies from Fernleigh I stopped by Barnes & Noble and discovered they had cleared their stock of these books and have no plans to carry them again. Of course I haven't checked in a few years. Maybe they're back.

Anyway, I really liked your dragon illustrations.

Hi Cloverfish,
Happy to meet you.
Thanks for the kind words.

Complimentary copies were the only ones I saw as well. Shame because I thought they were a nice idea, especially as a series. Not so flimsy as some of the other 'pop-ups'. So we are kind of publishing brother illustrators. Unfortunately I've had no indication that they might have resurfaced - but you have me curious, so I might have a look round.

I will certainly have to drop by your Deviantart page and check out your Alice. Hope you don't mind if I add you to my watch list as well? It's nice to find a fellow who I've nearly rubbed shoulders with, so to speak.

Hi Nick,

I felt the same way about the Step Inside series. Considering the other sorts of books that are still on the shelves at B&N I'm surprised that the series got dropped. Anyway, I do plan to post my Alice illustrations eventually.

Also, I wanted to point out there is some sort of typo in your website link found at the bottom of your message that prevents a viewer from reaching the page. There is a colon at the end of the address that is the trouble, I think. Just thought you might want to know.

One last thing - I was wondering if you had any thoughts on having an agent? How is that working out?

very nice nick. love how it breaks the frame in particular.

thanks pyramidlagota. It was all part of accentuating the 3D aspect of the book. All the main images were broken down into four layers that popped up when you opened the page..

Figured it might have been a reason. Either way, its nice and dynamic the way it breaks the frame. Nice work overall, did i spot one of your pieces in Imagine Fx at some point??

Hi pyramidlagota.
Thanks.
Yes I've had a few bits and bibs in ImagineFX now and again. They are such a nice bunch, and regularly produce the digital art magazine I rate highest among the selection out there. Getting bigger and bigger names to interview now, which is even better.

hehe. Yeah, i thought you knew you! see, thats a good sign if i remember you without having to trawl through the past issues to be sure! Yeah, Great magazine. I got back into my artwork mainly from reading it and getting a taste for the digital art scene from it. I actually wrote them a letter saying exactly that and got letter of month etc and a years subscribtion, so they score high in my books too! Havent had the guts to submit a piece yet, too self critical and unsure of myself...but maybe soon...Fingers crossed!
Anyway, loving your stuff Nick. look forward to seeing more.

Go on pyramidladota - Be brave. What's the harm in submitting even if it gets refused? What if it doesn't . . . ? And suppose you don't get in first time - might that not imbue you with the 'I'll show them' spirit. Wouldn't it be worth a little dented pride to see your work in print. My pride gets crimped whenever artwork gets rejected for whatever reason - but I can't afford to let it get me down too much. Use it to spur you on too.

Well done for getting your letter printed by the way. They get a truck load of mail, so it must have been a good one.

Cheers for the encouragement. Now use some on yourself. We all suffer the same doubts.

cheers nick. thats mighty nice of you to say. and yeah, my lack of confidence has been constant hurdle to me in everything. but it usually gets pushed aside...eventually...and normally progress gets made... just a pain that it slows me down, is all...
anyway, psychology 101 is not on this site. chat to u again, and look forward to more work..
