I'm a sucker for astronauts.

Cool composition!

Me too I love anything to do with space!

There's something so amazing about outer space, maybe because it's so vast unfamiliar and unexplored.

I love anything sci fi

I agree, I love sci-fi too. Space can be fascinating and scary at the same time, it's all so weird haha

You know I feel very similarly about the ocean as I do about space, it's so beautiful and mysterious, but so scary too.

I'm really fascinated by the idea of strange lifeforms, like deep sea creatures, and alien life beyond earth (if it exists).

I gotta do more sci fi art!

Β Yes and it's so cool that some species that live down there barely evolved, so it's like a window to our past. I think that the same way some creatures had to evolve to be able to live on land, maybe we'll take a new different form when we start living in space too, to the point that someone living on Earth wouldn't recognise them as human anymore. Now, I think that has probably happened many times in other parts of the universe... I also wonder if we found AI out there, we'd be be able to really tell it was artificial "life". Sorry I think about these things a lot lmao I've tried doing some futuristic sci-fi drawings before but it's hard for me to make them look futuristic and convincing at the same time.

Deep ocean life is a really interesting topic, and gives lots of inspiration for drawings.

I like to google 'deep sea creatures' to see what images come up, there are some really weird things 8I

It's totally remarkable that some ancient creatures still exist, sharks have to be one of the coolest/scariest.

Sci-fi has such tough elements to capture successfully, it's really challenging!

I know what you mean about making it look futuristic and believable at the same time...

Some retro sci-fi stuff is pretty cool too tho, even if it's a bit silly

It would be so amazing if life beyond earth was discovered during my lifetime, I'd be so excited!

Retro sci-fi is the best sci-fi, I usually don't like the stuff they create these days, but every now and again something good comes out. I like that feeling of having my mind completely blown by a movie. 2001 and Solaris did that for me, they were making really interesting sci-fi comics too in the 80's, especially in Europe.

As for life beyond Earth, I'm sure we're not too far from discovering something! (:

Retro stuff can be so good, sometimes the outdated ideas and funny acting gets to me a bit tho 'XD

There's this artist I like that does some cool retro stuff, sci-fi and otherwise

I like this one lots >

I don't think I've seen Solaris, I will definitely have to check that out!

I'm always on the lookout for new sci-fi movies

Maybe life beyond earth will find us! Β

Cool! Maybe you'll like the new Blade Runner too if you haven't watched it yet, so inspiring.

Yes it's possible, when they do I hope it's nothing like War of the Worlds or we're ducked D:

I'm definitely hoping for friendly life beyond Earth

I have seen both Blade Runner movies, I liked them a lot!
I'm currently reading 'Do androids dream of electric sheep, which is great so far : )

I recently also watched 'Annihilation' on Netflix, which was really interesting, I'd recommend itΒ

I've never read the book but I've heard it's good and it gives a better understanding of the Blade Runner world, maybe I'll buy a copy some day.

I watched Annihilation too, that ending was weird haha.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

SleepyVoodle In reply to NickTeo [2018-05-31 10:48:09 +0000 UTC]

The book certainly has more to it, like all stories adapted to film I guess.

I really loved the weirdness of annihilation, I liked coming up with ideas about what it all meant, I had some good discussions about it.

Did you come up with theories about what was going on?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

NickTeo In reply to SleepyVoodle [2018-06-01 08:12:37 +0000 UTC]

Yes, you're right. I think Annihilation is also based on a book, isn't it?

It's been a while since I watched it, but from what I remember it wasn't her husband that came back from the forest but a copy of him right? I don't have a theory, more like a bunch of questions. Why was the alien changing the DNA of everything in the forest in the first place? Or maybe their reality was merging with oursΒ  and that was an effect caused by it idk. Why the copies, what does that mean and what do they get from it? Were they like learning how to be human by impersonating one? and why would they want to do that anyway? Maybe a form of communication? So the forest was on fire at the end if I remember correctly, well she escaped but I assume something must have happened to her DNA too and what happens now? what's the copy of her husband going to do, is he going to live like a normal human or does he have powers too? What about her?

Maybe some of these things were explained in the movie and I didn't pay enough attention. What are your theories?

SleepyVoodle In reply to NickTeo [2018-06-02 00:50:00 +0000 UTC]

Well!

I've watched it 2 times, the common consensus in our discussions was that the alien life form was spreading to clone or infect a male and female of the dominant species of Earth, so it could then reproduce naturally.

Once the main characters husband was cloned, he mysteriously arrives back at their home, which we think was to lure the main character into the shimmer in the hopes that she too would be cloned/infected successfully.

His organ failure and impending death was possibly a technique used by the alien life form to lure his wife in, or he was legitimately dying until they were reunited after both successfully surviving the shimmer with altered DNA, presumably hosting the alien within them.

The shimmer may have been a test to ensure that the alien found strong hosts, possibly only those who reached the core and made it out alive would be suitable.

I really love that movie, especially the crazy sound effects, definitely worth watching a second time!

NickTeo In reply to SleepyVoodle [2018-06-04 06:12:10 +0000 UTC]

Wow that makes a lot of sense! I like the trippy sound effects too, it adds to the strangeness of the movie. I'll watch it again when I have some time (: What are some of the series you like to watch on Netflix?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

SleepyVoodle In reply to NickTeo [2018-06-07 02:00:11 +0000 UTC]

I looked on iTunes for the Annihilation soundtrack the other day, and it's $40 @_@'

Maybe I can find it elsewhere for a bit cheaper...

As for Netflix series, it's quite a mixed bag for me, some stand-out ones are:

- Brooklyn 99

- Stranger things

- Sense 8

- Black mirror

- Dirk gently

- The OA

- The alienist

- The 100

- The end of the fucking world

- Lost in Space

- Castlevania

What about you, which series you like?

NickTeo In reply to SleepyVoodle [2018-06-11 04:18:06 +0000 UTC]

Wow hope you found it for a lower price, at least you'll be supporting the artist anyway.

I don't watch a lot of series these days tbh (or movies), but I really like Stranger Things and Black Mirror. Sorry for taking so long to reply!

That's all good!

I'm on break right now, so I have extra spare time

I mostly watch shows in the evening when I have dinner.

Do you watch any anime?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

NickTeo In reply to SleepyVoodle [2018-06-13 02:48:37 +0000 UTC]

I used to, but it's been a while. I rediscovered anime a few years ago watching movies like Akira, Ghost in the Shell and some Studio Ghibli movies they're all very well made. Before that all I knew was DBZ and pokemon haha I'm not up to date with any recent series and movies though. The last thing I remember watching was this series called Planetes, but I never got to the end of it. Oh I also remember watching Paprika a long time ago. Again most of them are science fiction movies. I remember you mentioned Castlevania, is it good and what's it about?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

SleepyVoodle In reply to NickTeo [2018-08-18 22:38:43 +0000 UTC]

omg this is the slowest response, it's a Guinness World Record! :0

Sooooo, heyyy~

That's sounds like my anime history too, I only knew what was on TV, then I branched out later on.

All the ones you mentioned are really good!

Some other stand-out animes for me have been, Cowboy Beebop, One Punch Man, Ergo Proxy, Full Metal Alchemist, FLCL, Shoku Geki.

& a couple I've been been meaning to watch are, Steins;Gate, & Mob Psycho 100.

Castlevania is pretty good if you don't mind some fairly gory stuff, (many demons, much blood).

Without spoiling the story, the rough gist is an ex-vampire hunter getting tangled up in a bid to prevent the apocalypse, brought about by Dracula as revenge on mankind for being so shitty.

It has a bit of humor mixed in which I appreciated Β

So I recently left the course I was doing (really didn't live up to expectations) :I

I'm doing some volunteer work & looking for a part-time job, somehow I've been crazy busy since I left though :0

What's been happening with you?...

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

NickTeo In reply to SleepyVoodle [2018-10-04 05:56:29 +0000 UTC]

It's ok, I think I may have broken your record now... I've definitely heard of some of those before, but I'm a bit of a noob when it comes to anime.

What was the course you were doing again? I hope you found the job you were looking for.

I've just been working on my art, as usual. I've been trying to learn and experiment with different media that I'm not really used to like oils and gouache and I've been planning to do some stuff with pastels too. I think traditional painting has been inspiring me more than digital art recently, so that's why I'm focusing more on that now.
