Alicia’s story begins with her family history. Alfred Pennyworth was given a position with British intelligence in 1966. During his time away his mother gave birth to his younger sister Katie. When Alfred's mother died, the family of three moved to America, where Alfred Pennyworth was hired by the Wayne Family. He served as a butler, but he was well trained to act as a bodyguard in a disaster scenario. Katie's father decreed that she was to go to the most prestigious schools in America and Katie grew up with a good education and background. In 1992 Katie gave birth to her daughter, who she named Alicia Jarvis Wilson, her middle name after her grandfather. Alicia grew up in San Francisco, she had a good life with Katie and her father Alan Wilson. However in 2007, her parents were killed in a car crash and Alicia was drawn into the Wayne Family, with her guardian and only surviving family member Alfred Pennyworth taking her in. Alicia didn't really fit in with her surroundings, and she spent more and more time with Bruce's newly adopted son Jason Todd. They eventually fell in love and began a teenage romance. When Jason was wounded by Killer Croc he came to her for aid, as Bruce and Alfred were away. She helped him, but after some thought she decided that she wanted in on Bruce's crusade. Jason wasn't thrilled that his girlfriend was in his secret lair, failing at stitching him up and when Bruce and Alfred came back...they had some words. When the yelling was done, Alicia decided it was a good time to make her case about why she should be part of the crusade. Her entire life she'd felt like something had been missing. She had a completely normal childhood, than her parents died and she moved into a mansion! Then nothing. The mansion was big and boring. She got a boyfriend, that was new, but he was always hiding something. Even Bruce, the mansion's owner who was barely around, you'd think would be the most black and white person ever. But even Wayne was hiding something! So when she discovered her boyfriend's little secret she decided this would be a great opportunity. Batman, unsurprisingly, said no. So she decided she would go to the Clocktower and have a talk with Barbara Gordon, the current Oracle and previous Batgirl. She arrived during an attack on the tower from Calculator and some H.I.V.E soldiers. She played a crucial part in taking back the tower. Because of this Barbara agreed with Alicia and began to train her, when Bruce found out he wasn't happy. He took Alicia back to the cave to give her a lecture, when the cave was attacked by Man-Bat. Once again, Alicia saved the day. Ultimately Bruce allowed her to go into training. During the later months of her training, Jason would sneak her out to go on patrol with her. The two worked like a team, and even Bruce who later found out agreed. Eventually, the Batfamily gained another Batgirl. But nothing good can last. In the summer of 2008, the Batfamily was on the trail of Ra’s al Ghul who was attempting to cripple the world economy by destroying financial districts in Europe. Ra’s red the Joker as a distraction. Jason and Alicia took a backup Batmobile and were on their way to help Batman take down Joker until a truck slammed into the Batmobile, sending it toppling down a nearby hill. Joker and Harley Quinn emerged from the truck and grabbed Jason. Alicia was dragged to the lake at the bottom of the hill and beaten. Joker tried to drown her. Bruce arrived a few minutes later and pulled Alicia onto the riverbank. He asked her who took Jason and she was able to carve a "J" into the sand. Batman put her in the back of the main Batmobile and then drove off to find Jason. A few hours later, Oracle located him and they rushed into save him...setting off an explosion. These experiences gave Alicia PTSD. The crash and Jason’s kidnapping combined withe trauma of the deaths of her parents and her near-death experience all contributed to Lee Thompson’s diagnosis. With Jason’s recent resurrection, they’ve been trying to repair their relationship.
