the other version takes away the slow but powerful, ancient feeling

The pattern of the swirl is very dear to me, it's somehow sacred.
These creatures, like some seaward golem from the depths works well with the free flowing spiral designs.

sweet jesus on a lollypop stick.
your scaring me.
i did some creatures like this in a 3d program called bryce coming up from the water attacking a spaceship. the difference being mine had 2 posts for the head with one eye on each.
very cool bro.

Interesting, I imagne golems made of clay. Maybe a clay animation video or something would have something in it abit like this.

yeah totally, the kind of films that they don't make anymore... claymation has always felt more real to me than computer graphics.

That's a good start on this one. I think you should take this one to the next level, though. You've got a great chance to express volume and accentuate the shape and mass of these creatures. The birds alone do not do their size justice. I think this calls for a high contrast situation. Lots of darks, few midtones, and several highlights to define their form. Also what makes this so interesting is the mystery behind it all, so making these figures' forms discernible while doing it displaying as little information as possible. I'm not saying to lose detail, just to make the highlights on the edge of the forms bright and working back through the forms, the highlights become darker and darker. Also to really express their size, it might be a good idea to make this a rocky shore, or whatever good ideas might come up with. These are just some suggestions on where I could see this piece taken. The original drawing is still very cool though.

that's a really good idea. i used a really minimal amount of detail/shading. i never work out shading and highlights like you've suggested, it's harder to do with inks and still maintain a high level of contrast and detail. i will try what you suggest, not with this piece, but something similar in the future.
thanks a lot for the advise. i really appreciate it.

A good way to test it out without screwing your piece up is to use photoshop and paint in the shading and colors, and use it to reference. Maybe I will give it a shot if that is cool with you?
