Bakshi is just fucked up. Probably the best movie he made is Coonskin.Β It's likeΒ Uncle Remus's tales if the main characters were all black.Β Don't worry, I don't think it depravatesΒ blacks. If it depravates anyone, it's the Mafia. Heavy Traffic was good too, it's just so damn riveting.

I agree Bakshi has a wild imagination we all may or may never understand, but you have to admire the crazy ideasΒ and breaking boundaries that cartoons are "for families".

And that's what I enjoyed about the said movie. Coupled with the impressive animation, it has some of the coolest black characters that happen to be anthropomorphic.
Interesting that we mention Song of the South. To come to think of it, the characters are similar to the Br'er trio in that movie; Rabbit being the cunning trickster, Bear being brawn over brain, and Fox being the fast-talking psycho. Although Fox looks more like a sheep than a fox, quite ironically.
It's obvious that Bakshi doesn't mind African Americans; even the white protagonist of Heavy Traffic has a black girlfriend. I'm sure his inspiration behind these films is interesting. But I don't think I want to know where Cool World came from, because that's just way too wierd to comprehend. And on the topic of that movie, the original draft behind that movie was more interesting and more mature.

I enjoyed Coonskin best since the guy that voices Brother Rabbit also voices Lance Vance from GTA:Vice City and they're pretty much similar. 
In fact Bakshi grew up in a black neighborhood and had black friends.
Cool World was originally gonna be a live-action/animated horror movie but it was changed to the weirdness we know today since they didn't like Bakshi's idea.
