I like this piece, especially the fearful mother holding the baby bird fetus. I think her face in particular is fantastic. The composition seems a bit off to my eye though, specifically the void seems a bit big. Granted, I'm definitely not a painter, that's just my impression. Too bad about the glare, there's probably a program to cut down on that.

i was pretty irritated by the glare. this was the last sizable painting that I finished. so far i haven't been able to get a good photo of it. i think that the composition is helped by some of the details of the "empty space" which we can't see due to that glare. this is in a gallery right now... here is a link to see a photograph of it in that context...

because of the excessive glistening in the surface I muted it a bit with a dulling finish. in some respects it improved the surface, but in other ways it seemed to hinder the depths of certain areas.
this happens every so often with a painting, where i have extreme troubles with the quality of the surface...and it is not viewable in certain lighting.
the fate of this painting is not secure... it has not sold in the gallery and when i get it back it might be painted over. or modified in a variety of ways.
i enjoy painting over things, letting little pieces or even sizable chunks of the past come through. it makes a painting look older and wiser, more experienced. it has lived through something.
this painting seems to be a good candidate for that... i'm pretty sure it was something else before it was what it is now anyway.
