I love gel pens, what can I say? This piece was inspired by the new year and my want for summer to return. This was also a personal challenge to produce my art in a faster manner. Although, I found that the challenge did affect the quality of my work, it was nice to present a dare to myself.Related content

This piece just takes the cake lol. I know you say some of your stuff is a day's work, but did this take you JUST a day? because to me, it looks like a week x)
I got some ...'fake' gel pens and I've been trying them out today...though my pens are more glittery (I sort of like the glitter effect as well, although I doubt they'll show up on the computer) and I can say with certainty, that I'll never be able to do it like THIS

This took me about 45 mins. I really was super sonic speed mode. I was trying to challenge myself. I have tons of the glitter kind and I like the smoothness of the ink. Thanks again for taking the time to comment.

yeah I'm actually not much of a comment-kinda-person, but I do find your stuff quite fascinating 
45 mins x) Yes, right. the super cheap gel-like pens I found over here can't color that stuff in 45 mins...I'm trying out some stuff mixing both glitter pens and pro markers...I like those too, even though they're not as shiny and sparkly as your gel pens

Note: This piece is smaller than most of my other pieces...another reason why it took my 45 mins, the scale isn't too large. Also, it depends on the paper you use because the absorbancy of them. I use card stock and I am starting to really like watercolor paper.

ah. I've only tried these pens on normal thick drawing paper. Didn't know they had a different effect on watercolour paper. I should check that out. I have started using watercolors on canvas instead of watercolour paper and it feels the same way

dang i cant believe you make this work with gel pens.. i always hurt my wrist from shaking them out so much they never wanna work for me >

Oh noes! I know what you mean. I "break" my pens...I take a new pen and a piece of thick paper or even cardboard and press down (without tearing the paper or board) and make a figure 8 for a while. I find that it creates wear on the ball of the pen and allows more ink to flow through..so the pen doesn't get clogged as much. Also, if your pens get clogged, disassemble them and blow air on the open end of the ink cartridge...kinda forces the ink out. I am a dork, I know. But, I do find this to be helpful in the world of gel pens...cause they can be frustrating.

I go through a lot of yellow and orange. >.< It is a pain because the brand that I mostly use, you can't buy them individually. And I have to buy this bulk pack just to get those 2 colors I need. But, sometimes I can luck out and find a pack that the hobby store spilled or people switched the yellow out of the pack they got and I get 4 or 5 yellows in a pack. I love it when that happens. ^.^ And thank you! Glad that you like my art. YAY!

only thing with gel pens is, you only have so long before the ink dries, then it's almost impossible (at least for me) to blend them after.
the first attempt I did, I totally screwed it up stupidly trying to blend purple and yellow >.> don't know what I was thinking xD

Yea, yellow and purple just look like a really bad brown. I "break" my pens. Before I use them, I take a piece of cardboard and push the ball of the pen down as hard as I can (without cutting the cardboard) and scribble with it. Only for a couple of seconds. What this does is create wear on the ball so more ink comes out. The more ink that comes out, the better it is to blend. And yes, they do dry really fast. >.<

haha, well the strokes of my pen were in the wrong direction, too, so I was trying to blend basically against the grain instead of end to end. But I've learned now
hmm, I never thought about the cardboard thing, but that does sound like it would help... maybe it would help me "revive" my pens that decided to go "nope. Don't wanna flow anymore." when they're still 80% full >.<
