Description A Common Murre/Guillemot on Hornøya, Varanger, Arctic Norway, 2017.

On land these birds are rather clumsy and their landing always rather looks like crashing, but in the water and in air, they are just so incredibly fast!

Thanks a lot! Murres are often overlooked as kind of the background species in seabird colonies, but they're amazing birds as well!

I like how they fly just 1-2m above the water, with their tiny wings flapping like crazy

Yeah, they´re incrdibly fast for having such small wings

Ah, I love them They're like torpedos, both flying and diving and it's lovely to watch them zoom around Lovely shot!

Love them too, thank you! They're really hard to shoot, cause they're so fast but also so adorable! :-D I find it particularly difficult to shoot them on Helgoland unfortunately cause they're always below the Gannetts at the cliff and rarely fly nicely over the top, on Hornøya that was really awesome, I was standing for hours at the same level as the murres coming back from fishing were flying, that was amazing! I was also white speckled afterwards though :-D

Always a pleasure
They really are hard to shoot... You're right that they're still below the gannets so they often don't fly high enough. But if you wait a bit a few ones will be there And at least I didn't get pooped on (luckily the gannets held back as well)
