Description Happy Tuesday, folks!

Last week I posted a warm-up  image of Major Motoko Kusanagi using her thermoptic suit as seen in the classic anime "Ghost In The Shell". As usual, your support and love for the image were truly appreciated and got me thinking about trying my hand at something I'd never done before.

I was never a huge fan of manga or anime, by any stretch of the imagination. I sort of disliked the similar style that japanese artists seemed to instill in all of their creations and always preferred the european artists and american comics. In my defense, I was young and stupid When I grew up and started to notice the nuances and differences that manga artwork had and anime studios put into their films, a whole world opened up to me and though I've never become a full-fledged fan, I've come to seriously appreciate the classics and some works that have been recommended to me. I marvelled at the technique japanese artists have at drawing architecture and technology as well as their impossible grasp of ink and watercolor, a medium I'm very fond of myself.

However, I never did chance doing my version of sagas such as the aforementioned "Ghost In The Shell" or "Akira". And I especially never wanted to touch "Evangelion" as it blew my mind away in both formats and I still page through Sadamoto's manga version every time I can. Yet, after seeing how favorably my Kusanagi was received and having resolved to tread as much new ground as possible from now on, here's my humble vision of Rei Ayanami, perhaps the character most associated with that incredible story.

I could go on and on about what I liked and inspired me from watching Evangelion and the pride I felt when I saw that my drawing of Rei didn't suck balls as I'd thought But I'll let the artwork speak for itself as usual and let you be the judges.

Thank you in advance for your support and who knows? I may dabble into some more of these if I can Suggestions are appreciated of course.

See you tomorrow!

Nic.-

I really like how you've adapted her to your own style. It's slightly different in shape and design from your usual work, but still easily recognizable as your own.

That was the trickiest part! I didn't want to just ape the original style, nor drive it so out of it you maybe wouldn't recognise her. It was a thin balance I'm glad I could achieve. Thank you, Joseph!

Believe it or not but this is actually the most attractive interpretation of Rei I've come across.

Maybe it's your style, or the fact that in this piece she expresses some tangible emotion.

There is no doubt who she is, you have captured her likeness VERY well.

I just cannot get into the show....Its still a Phenom in Japan, has a HUGE cult following.....but bores me to tears.....Ive never gotten past the duo dancing episode...

Thank you, man! The show is a bit tricky, I admit, but to be honest, I was always fascinated more with the whole technical and artistic side of it than the story itself. So its obscureness didn't bother me so much.

Most of all I like in your stuff is that you have little boundaries. Never expect Rei in your gallery. And it's awesome.

Thank you so much, my friend! It's a recent trend for me to step out of my comfort zones a LOT. I usually stayed put in pretty much what I knew how to do, but exploring other ideas has really helped me improve!
