Description Happy wednesday, folks!

After a brief hiccup yesterday, I'm back updating the Gallery and breaking a bit of the latest #inktober2016 monotony by posting yet another warm-up dedicated to the Masters of the Universe.

Teela was another one of those childhood crushes I had and I always loved that she was very capable with a sword; nothing sexier than a woman that can kick your arse I had done a version of her in my alternate 'He-Man: Twilight' post-apocalyptic interpretation, but as I'm doing lately this time it's back to the classic. Which, again, holds up very well with minor tweaks on my part or none at all, as in this case.

Another thing I love about drawing MotU is that I get to design and explore different places within Eternia, which always struck me as a fabulous place filled with some really cool environments. I mean, a place that has a Castle Greyskull and Snake Mountain is bound to have other magical/mystical places. Add to that the retro sci-fi technology and we have a killer combination.

As usual, I hope you enjoy and be on the lookout for the opposite to Teela; can you guess who it'll be?

Nic.-

Once again you captured the essence of the character Nic... good job
However, I regret you choose the "Filmation" representation of Teela rather than Mattel's own version (with her Cobra-styled armour and sceptre)... Teela looks IMHO better when she doesn't look like she's just ready for a swim

Btw, I've always been amazed by the fact that people (well I should say "kids back then and the adult they've become since") under-estimate the importance of Teela... She is arguably more important than He-Man for the future of Eternia. She is after all the daughter (clone according to some sources) of the Sorceress, bound to take her place as protector of the secrets of Grayskull...

Not directly related but I had an epiphany "recently" which I feel like sharing. I realized why He-Man needs to keep his real identity a secret... Since Skeletor owns the other half of the sword of power, if he realized what it can do, he could harness the powers of Grayskull himself!Β

Thank you, old friend!Β

I did have a moment's hesitation on wether to draw Teela's mini-comic incarnation or the cartoon version, but since I grew up on the latter and only discovered her cobra-wielding version late in life, I thought I'd honor the childhood memory. Which doesn't mean I won't go for the more 'sword & sorcery' version in a time to come

And I agree 100% on the importance of Teela and your epiphany as well. This is why I always regard He-Man's backstory with greater respect than it is usually given as a mere 'cartoon'.

There was quite a deep background created from the beginning (which was used partially with the 200x revamped series), but a lot of it was deemed "too much" by Filmation when they did the cartoon.

They feared that "concerned parents" would react badly to certain things and thus toned down the initial ideas they were presented with. And sometimes it was just ridiculous... Teela didn't get her Serpent gear in the cartoon simply because the serpent was a biblical symbol of evil for example... *slaps forehead*

One interesting "twist" in the storyline which they never really used, because it "blurred the line between good and evil" was that Skeletor was originally Keldor, King Randor's (half-)brother, hence He-Man's uncle. (That would also explain why they both had half of the Sword of Power, because the father of Randor and Keldor gave half of it to his sons, and Randor gave it to his own...)

I could go on (almost) forever on why if you removed the cheesy sounding names in MOTU, you could actually get a really decent sci-fantasy universe, but I'll stop here

Oh, I could follow you unto forever myself regarding MOTU and its background

I always told anyone who would listen about the original story from the mini-comics and they'd open their eyes wide at how 'mature' it was compared to the cartoon. It was originally so Sword&Sorcery that Alfredo AlcalΓ‘ even drew many of them illustrations way back when! If I remember correctly too, some of the original investors in the cartoon were part of a church group that made some specific requests as to what could and couldn't go into the show, hence why He-Man was never actually seen punching any villains or they never showed them landing on anything hard when they were stricken.

Well, it's part of the Masters of the Universe background, so it all has a similarity in design.

Thanks for clarifying mangaanime ! She is indeed part of the Masters of the Universe cartoon from back in the 80s. And I paint with markers,so it's traditional all the way
