Happy friday, folks!Well, the week came and went like a hurricane and I was barely able to keep up. Lots of work to do between pages, commissions and various projects.
That said and keeping in tune with what I'd mentioned on Tuesday about being in a STAR WARS-y mood, here's another add-on to a very LONG overdue commissions (of which I have lots, sadly) featuring the galaxy's most famous smuggler-turned-general: Han Solo.
I always loved the tricky relationship that Solo had with Jabba the Hutt, alternating between business buddies and reciprocal nemesis. I certainly wouldn't mind knowing more about how Han dropped that cargo that Jabba lamented so much and ended up with our hero trapped in carbonite as punishment. Hopefully in the next series of movies we'll get to that and more
For the time being though, here's the classic version of these two in glorious black and white, which seems to suit the pulp-y tone of the original trilogy like a glove. I'm particularly proud of the likeness I managed to convey here as it's not always been my strong point. But I'm certainly getting the hang of Mr. Ford.

Β In the background Chewbacca has clearly been struck by the mental image of Jabba attempting to export repayment in "Kind" rather than Cash (and given the expression on the Hutt's face we cannot be sure that idea hasn't occurred to Jabba himself).Β

Nice job! The story of the dropped cargo is covered the Han Solo Trilogy by AC Crispin in the last book, Rebel Dawn. It's been ret-conned now (well they say it has) but it's a great read, it also covers why Solo is so grumpy when it comes to the Rebel Alliance as well. I'd really recommend them!

I'll definitely try and hunt them down; it's a sad fact that all of the expanded universe is now 'unofficial', but I'm sure some of its ideas will leak onto Disney's takeover.

Can you imagine a spinoff film for han, where it showed the relationship between him and the Hutt clans?
It could be styled like the goodfellas, and show that Han wasn't always the handsome rouge. Maybe..he did things...very dark..

In 'Tales of the Bounty hunters'. I believe it was Dengar's story, I was quite surprised by a very mean act by Han Solo which directly led to Dengar being altered and conditioned by the empire in order to make him a Bounty hunter. So, yes, I would like to see Han Solo painted in a darker light.
