Description I know, I know...

This isn't anything remotely close to the Little Red Riding Hood (which, by the way, is winning the Poll I posted recently and will be the subject of an upcoming illustration!), but I couldn't wait to get this one posted.

Many of you have been waiting for me to come back to the Dark Millenium and checking my Gallery, I realised that it had been indeed a lil' long since my last post regarding the grim far future.
However, I'm nowhere near as far from it as you'd think, but rather working on projects that I couldn't fully disclose until I'd finished them and the clients were satisfied. Such is the case with this commission.

I personally loved working on this piece because it threw at me a challenge that I felt was very exciting: to show The Emperor and Horus, The Warmaster, working side by side in the early days of the glory of the Impeium, while the 63rd Expeditionary Fleet was still a loyalist defender -and enforcer!- of the Imperial Truth.
There's lots of details to take in here: there's well-known characters the client requested to have (Cpt. Loken from "Horus Rising" and a previous illustration you'll surely remember from me) as well as a composition and atmosphere that create a very interesting and yet unseen aspect of these legendary warriors.
I think after seeing so many imagery of father and son fighting their last battle against one another, it's definitely original and a pleasure for me to tackle the first piece of artwork depicting their actual involvement in helping mankind out of the darkness together.
I particularly enjoy one thing above all: I like the way Horus is taking the lead in this operation and The Emperor is sort of agreeing with his Son, taking on a more soldier-like role, which I think emphasises the fact that he didn't want to be seen as a deity and had no problem stepping aside and confidently take in his Son's advice.

So, again, I hope you enjoy this return to Warhammer 40,000 and let me know what you think as usual!

Until soon and have a great weekend in case I don't see you before that!

Nic.-

I Love the way you do 40k stuff and your art in general. Say do you still make WH 40k art?

And may I use this in a hand in at school about Warhammer 40k?

As for using the artwork, as long as it's non-profit, you should eb good

I like how you got the scale right between Emperor, Primarch, Custodian, and Astartes.

Remember people, a man would come just short of an Astartes waist. Compare that to everyone else in the picture. That's right. A fully grown man would be about as tall as the hilt of the Emperor's sword is long. Not including crosspiece and pommel.

Well it's stated in 40k the Average Human is about 5'9.
Average Astartes is 7'6.
(see this: img299.imageshack.us/img299/67…

That's Mid-chest on the average Astartes, not waist XD

Before or after Rogue Trader canon was replaced?Β  Rogue Trader had seven foot Astartes, post-Rogue Trader had eight foot Astartes.Β  Also, I didn't mean waist in my previous post.Β  I was tired, it was late (like always when I lurk the Web).Β  A man comes up to just short of an Astartes sternum.Β  Depending on the human, obviously.Β  But for the most part...yeah.

Love this picture, but I DO find one thing i do not agree with here...
Why the hell is the emperor made like a bloody giant? He was a human with Über psychic powers, but he wasent a giant :S
Hes just over 2 m tall from most accounts.
Seriously, he does not tower over the primarchs.

I really enjoy the stylistic choice here. It's got all the 40K epicness we expect from 40K work but it also has an individual style that sets it apart from the miasma of 40K themed art. I rate it as win.
