Do you have to be a digital artist to get into dnd publishing?

Oh I love this!
Most of my DM friends are a bit 'purist' in how they play (though one is pretty lenient in letting me play a homebrew bard class after we tweaked it) but I would love to play this race. I love dragons and, while Dragonborns and Kobolds are nice, this is more my jam. And the artwork is stunning.
Please forgive me while I just favorite this and many of your other DnD revised works for future references and much bending of my knees to the almighty DMs

Hey, I heard you were writing a book of this, and I was wondering when it would be out/where I could find it?

While I'm happy that you and Mantis are friends and I'm even more ecstatic that I can share this with my DM and players, I'll admit that the comments here made me wary about posting anything relating to dragon people publicly if people are going to immediately scream "ripoff!" without reading anything or looking at her faq. Its unfair to ask someone to control their fans, but as another fan of hers who doesn't have the benefit of being a friend - I worry what would've happened if you two weren't buddies. Idk, I've just seen several artists through the years get into rough publicity spots because of things like this. I'd hate to see that happen with Mantis, to say nothing of other people feeling as i do and not making dragon stuff public. Maybe Im just being paranoid.
With that heavy stuff said, this is very well put together! The only info we have regarding any kind of half dragon race in dnd is with Kobolds I believe. I always found that strange since Dragons can take humanoid forms and the metallic dragons(silvers notably) are stated to build entire lives with mortals. Im glad to see something like this to fill that info-gap. I also really appreciate you compiling all that dragon info all together! Cuts down all that time page turning and pdf skimming. I especially like the variations you put in regarding racial features between the different flights of dragon. I know that this was intended to be used with the revised dragonborn you made, but can it be used on its own? Honestly, from what I've read of it, your revised dragonborn is a huge improvement of the base game's. But some games keep the amount of homebrew low for balance, my own included. Does playing without the revision leave any kind of power or cultural gap in the world?
Edit: One more question! From one DM to another. Did you place this together yourself? Or is that something that the GMBinder has a feature for? I've been trying to find a way to keep my stuff together in a neat and tidy fashion that still fits the theme of dnd's books.

Well don't worry too much, as long as you don't let them get to you then they will often quit. Outrage and cancel culture is sadly the norm for many, who are deep down just trying to bully. Just do what you want, and weather the storm. You will come out stronger in the end, I can promise you
And yes, I put it all together I did get help from a friend, and I did use his base template in GMbinder.
In fact, this player race is meant to be used together with my Revised Dragonborn player race, so that Dragonborn players will not be left behind. Whitemantis is currently making the art for it, but I already have the base ready if you are interested: www.gmbinder.com/share/-LpUnq-…
I gave them more bestial traits, so that you can choose between the more humanoid Half Dragons, and the more bestial Dragonborn
Also, here is a combination of all the lore that I could find: www.gmbinder.com/share/-LtLZ9K… it also goes a bit more into detail about what differences there are between the Dragonborn and Half Dragon races.

I skimmed over it just now, but I think I like it.
This would be of interest to me, but may I ask a question?
How works DMsGuild?
I wanted to get some of the things there for some time now, but can't find anywhere how DMsGuild works.
I have to create an account there, but then what? Is it free, or is there a monthly/yearly member fee?
Sorry, if I'm bothering.

Thank you very much.
Again, this looks awesome.
I think, I'll maybe use this in a campaign I'm plannin at the moment, if that's okay.

Dang people are getting a bit... mad over this? It's all for fun, look at how much work went into this! The art, the clearly well thought out traits and history-
I just really hate to see such a cool idea get filled with nothing but "yeah no ripoff lol" when there's only so much you can do to make dragon people different from each other, and the creator of the Varanar species encourages other dragon people anyways!

Ah, thank you for posting this. It really cleared up my question on whether or not you can have both the traits of a variant human as well as those of a Half-dragon. I may or may not have been trying to create a halfdragon with some flight capacity using the LoM Starspawn feat. Time to rewrite Rein.

I make dragon people, too.
My design is a lot different than this, though.

To anyone saying this is too similar to White-Mantis's Varanar, I feel like you're worrying too much. Not only did she say that she still wants people to flex their creativity and create their own dragonfolk, I feel like this instance has enough differences anyway, such as the fact that this race seems to live in a more fantasy styled world instead of one inspired by the ice ages. The breath attack and dragon form are especially different, since Mantis has made it clear that her characters cannot transform into dragons and don't have any sort of dragonbreath. Not to mention that Mantis is FAR from the first to make a popular dragonfolk race. Besides, I'm sure Mantis would find this particular half-dragon race to be freakin' awesome. I know I do. XD

Thanks! Whitemantis already commented to clear things up, and they are indeed based on the Dragon races from Dungeons & Dragons.

Did you know that, in general, female lizards are significantly bigger than male lizards? I'm definitely not still salty about au'ra. D: Balance wise, pretty neat. Breath weapon is a little strong in comparison to what other races get. It runs pretty counter to a lot of previous DnD lore, though, and I kind of suggest looking at various half-dragon templates to get a kind of feeling. Though, the half-dragon template was always OP as heck so eh.
Also, people claiming too many similarities to other dragon people -- gosh. There's dragons of similar designs dating back to the 90s. Breath of Fire IV prominently featured dragon-human hybrid forms. Some weird hentai featured them. They gained a lot of popularity within anime spaces as "dragonewts" in the early 10s thanks to Monster Musume. Other good example I can think of is the Gria from Tactics Advanced, various anthropomorphized versions of Monster Hunter wyverns -- just. In short, anyone trying to "claim" a half-dragon design is uh. No.

This Half Dragon player race is meant to be used in combination with my Revised Kobold www.gmbinder.com/share/-Lxb9n_… and Revised Dragonborn www.gmbinder.com/share/-LpUnq-… player races, so that those two races would not feel left behind.
And if you are interested, here is a link to all the Draconic lore that I could find for these races: www.gmbinder.com/share/-LtLZ9K… Which also highlights the differences and original of both the Dragonborn and Half Dragons.

Oh, and I've also made a revised Dragonborn to go with them, seeing as the standard Dragonborn has a race score of 4.5 compared to the 8 of the Dwarf:
