Description TRACE AND FIN
THEY HIGH-FIVE ACROSS SPACE AND TIME
IT'S THEIR THING

The best part is, if ANYBODY else tried to do this, they'd just end up looking like an idiot. The other best part is that anybody who saw this would be eternally confused. Just like all my watchers who have no clue who The Felt are.

I got really lazy doing this (hello background! hello heavily-referenced poses!) but a) the sharks are hard to draw and it was my first time drawing them and b) this was mainly done to cheer myself up. SO HA.

And I'm sorry about the size, I tried making it smaller but ironically the filesize got bigger? What the hell.

Trace and Fin © Andrew Hussie

Damn it devA, what the hell category am I supposed to put this in?!

BEST CHARACTERS.
BEST CHARACTERS IN THE ENTIRE COMIC.

This is now headcannon for me.
You are an amazing person for bringing this into existance.

asfkdja; Fin's head. No matter how many times I draw him it never makes sense.

They can meet up in the correct time and space whenever they feel like it. They just need to catch up to / wait for the other one, respectively.

I don't know who'd do what in the situation though. It has always been above me to figure more than half the felt out. I get the general idea, but I'm slightly too dyslexic for that.

ANYWAY

AWESOME FANART! It makes me giggle. You did a great job making smooth, crisp lines! The colors are obviously spot-on, and the concept, is, well, awesomesauce. ^^

Or follow each others' past/future trails to the end/beginning, I suppose.

I can never remember who does what either. I always have to work back to "Trace = follow behind" and go from there. |D

Thank you! I'm glad you enjoyed it. ^_^

Awww, no problem! ^^

And, yeah, I guess that would work, wouldn't it. :duhjohn: I don't actually know. XD

Anyway, I just imagined high-fiving an invisible person. That would be so fun! And in these guys' case, it would actually connect and make a sound, much to onlookers' confusion. XD

Did you make this in Photoshop? (Also how did you animate it??)

This is neat. I like the idea. FIN AND TRACE ARE TIMEBUDS, WOOOO!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

NightingaleRB In reply to NakkiStiltz [2010-02-21 16:43:20 +0000 UTC]

I did! (You've rumbled me!) I also animated it in Photoshop -- when you save as a .gif there's an option to save layers as frames. I did not know this for a very long time though! Something else the MSPA forum has taught me.

Thank you. I like "similar but opposite" characters interacting with each other. TIMEBUUUUDS~

NakkiStiltz In reply to NightingaleRB [2010-02-21 16:45:32 +0000 UTC]

Ooooooh! So... you make several layers, each as a frame for the animation? (Wouldn't this cause some of the pictures to overlay? Or do you make them all with the same background or something?... Sorry for pestering! I'm trying to figure out how to animate myself.)

Yesss! "Similar but opposite" is cool. xDD

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

NightingaleRB In reply to NakkiStiltz [2010-02-21 18:24:53 +0000 UTC]

The best way to find out is to just start experimenting. What it seems to do for me (Photoshop Elements 2) is basically make each layer its own frame, and hide all the other layers. So if I want a background, I'd need to put the background in every layer. ... This is hard to explain. |D But you can preview it before you save, which is nice. Give it a try!

NakkiStiltz In reply to NightingaleRB [2010-02-21 19:55:41 +0000 UTC]

Can I ask you some more questions??
I have Photoshop CS3, so some of this stuff could be unknown to you? IDK, anyways-

I've managed to make the layers for the animation, buuuuut now I need to muck around with saving it as a .gif- which I can only do by using 'Save for Web and Devices.' There's a little menu on the 'Save for Web and Devices' thing that has some sliders and options and stuff (if you want I can take a screenshot i think), andddd I was wondering what to put for everything because I can't figure out how to make it animate.

Also, what order should the layers/frames be in for them to animate correctly? (Right now I have them, going from the top, as Frame 3 (the last frame), Frame 2 (middle frame), and Frame 1 (first frame.))

GUHHHH ANIMATION IS HARD

NightingaleRB In reply to NakkiStiltz [2010-02-21 20:20:01 +0000 UTC]

Oooh, I don't know about sliders... here's what my save screen looks like (after checking the "layers as frames" box): I put red boxes around the things I use. Does yours look something like this?

As for layers I think it makes the bottom-most layer the first frame, and works its way upwards. So yours would show Frame 1, then 2, then 3. And then loop if you've enabled that.

NakkiStiltz In reply to NightingaleRB [2010-02-21 20:24:39 +0000 UTC]

Ahhh, see, my layout looks a bunch different from what you have. However I do seem to have figured out animation- I used a Youtube tutorial and now I'm preparing to upload that thang!

Yeah, that's the way I thought it'd work too. xD (I think I used a different kind of animation to do this, though.)

Either way! THE FRUIT OF MY LABORS SHALL BE REVEALED.
