This is my first attempt to digitalize my work with CS5, I had a lot of fun exploring the program but it had also been very hectic. There are quite a bit more things I want to add except it will take some time due to my lack of skills in photoshop.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
In the midst of all the digitalizing I've noticed that I've made Tali look like somewhat of a Persian princess instead of just a Quarian warrior due to the lighting and coloring but I kind of dig it. Instead of looking adorable, she seemes more regal and mature and has a sense of solemness in her character.
============================
Constructive criticisms are welcome especially on the technical aspect of it!! Thank you very much.
I just wondered. Why didn't you put just Tali, planet and smokes? Somehow that purple, blue and a bit of that pink fill the whole composition enough. And instead of ship going up, just continue some dark tone like you have now in that corner.
Tali is so good, that she doesn't need anything else
I thought about that, with just Tali the picture will be more explosive but I couldn't see it when it was on paper. However, when I added the clouds in the sky the whole piece didn't seem to be so empty anymore and it could live with or without Shepard. Thanks for the input.
I've always been hesitant about giving Tali that Geth Shotgun. I have a mental image of her staring daggers at me through that mask if I did... but it fits her well.
Outstanding work
To be honest, I rather enjoy the sense of calm that Tali is excluding- It's different, and it's like she's reflecting the enormity of what they are doing, what they are trying to achieve.
That's quite a different way to look at it, thanks for adding a new perspective that it almost sounded like it wasn't Tali or a certain side of her personality was extruded given the circumstances. If it helps, the black and white version had a description of what I had in mind when it was originally created.
and Tali's always adorable
Oh..., maybe not Persian but Arab? I mean it just reminds me of women from the middle east but I know they're not the same. I like the pictures on your page, I always want to go there but I'm not sure how it'd work out because of the political climate. Nevertheless, I really like the history.
well you mean the dusty path? it's just outskirts of the most religious hellhole in Iran trust me you won't like it here
and yeah I know what you say but Arab women are usually all covered up though I get the meaning it does look kind of ancient mid easternish
and Tali is so adorable LOOVE her voice and accent makes you wanna hug her tight
well most ME characters make me feel that...except the cerberus bastards
Thanks man. I had so much fun with the blasts, but the gun was the most interesting part with the lights and shadows. I'm trying to figure out how to add a little shinny reflection on Tali's helmet since right now it looks kind of flat. I'm currently looking at references to teach me how to speed paint so I can ultimately do your piece digitally instead of on paper. This is my new field and it'll remain so for the many years to come, so little time but so much to learn. Anyways, how've you been?
πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1
prazors In reply to NightJian28 [2011-05-07 16:00:34 +0000 UTC]
Yea, the reflections seem like a challenge to do effectively. I'm sure that you will figure it out though.I never really got into shading/coloring, but I did stumble upon a 3D rendering program that is free for Windows/Linux. It's called Blender. I tried it very briefly and it's pretty poweful, although I have never used its full potential, but you might be able to.
I also saw your facebook posting about the Zbrush--that does look like a useful tool, especially for 3D rendering and just doing digital work in general.
As for me, I've been extremely busy lately. I'm about to start working two jobs in about a month...I have a girlfriend now, but she is cool/understanding of my schedule...and not too demanding of me
Hey did the webcam ever work for you?
NightJian28 In reply to prazors [2011-07-21 10:50:16 +0000 UTC]
It's figured out. I felt like an ass afterward because it was relatively easy, I was just afraid to mess it up.
Wow two jobs and a girlfriend? Take care man lol. I'm currently using 3ds Max but Blender it awesome, i think that's what the opensource used for the short animated film called Sintel. If you haven't seen it I highly recommend it. The Zbrush could save me a lot of time if I ever get intense with 3ds max, I'm so stoked to get one. I'll install the webcam later on tomorrow, I'll let you know how it turns out bro, and thanks again the gadget.
Yea, I know right? I wish I had more time to stop and smell the roses.
Also, regarding the webcam, you should be able to get a list of drivers from the GE website. I forgot the model number on the webcam. Just scroll to the bottom of the list located on the following URL:
Yea, blender is pretty awesome. I would like to learn more about it. I'll check out that movie, Sintel.
She-had-a-name [2011-05-06 09:32:38 +0000 UTC]
This is a very good start, especially for someone unfamiliar with the program. I know when I first started I wanted to tear my hair out over it! I love the colourisation of the sky - it's very atmospheric (do I spy lightning strikes? ;D), the flames are likewise great. Not so hot on the pink you've used - it's maybe a little too bold...could always try lowering the opacity on that one or something, since it's not so much the /colour/ but the strength of it that I think might be better corrected.
Can't wait to see the finished product. I think it's going to look amazing.
πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1
NightJian28 In reply to She-had-a-name [2011-05-06 18:08:38 +0000 UTC]
Thanks girl, I really appreciate your critique. The lightning was fun to do, but the sky however, not so fun lol. It took way longer than it should even using different cloud brushes and adjusting the opacity accordingly. So the lesson I learned was never forget to via copy layers when trying to add depth ha. I understand what you mean about the pink part, but if I lower the opacity the whole picture will look like it's missing the right side. It was weird how I've created the compositions in this picture and I really had to work around it just to make it look normal even when I was doing the pencil version. Nevertheless, I will go back and try different colors and methods to make it look better but not anytime soon because my brain is about to blow haha.
πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1
She-had-a-name In reply to NightJian28 [2011-05-07 15:23:08 +0000 UTC]
Oh, sorry, I meant lowering the opacity/flow of the brush to paint the pink - not the whole layer
And yeh, I know exactly what you mean - PS is great, once you get the hang of it, but figuring it all out can be a nightmare. Added to that all the possible options it gives, I can understand the frustration you are having.
Take your time with it though, have fun. I'll be here to fan girl when you're ready.
