Description EDIT: Do you see the face in the background? I did not see it till ~cosmicfabric brought it to my attention.

The motive shows a 10 years old piece of wood, that once was hanging in our budgie cage and being sculptured & smoothed by those.
It seems to be a very good method to conserve wood.

My first shooting @ magic hour. Subsequently I decided to not anymore photograph @ other times.

Technical information:
  • cam: Canon EOS 1000D

  • format: *.CR2

  • post-processing in PS CS4

    • contrast increased with CameraRAW

    • sharpening via highpass

    • frame created with: Frame Action: Display Glowing

It looks like there is hot lava beneath the wood. Excellent work!

Thank you.
Yes, I think that's the reason, why so many prior to you thought it would be a landscape photo.
Some asked me why I used this T&S-effect, as it would look better without to their mind.^^ All were quite surprised, when I told them, that it's actual a piece of wood.

that shot captures the look... The face in the background is so mysterious... But firstly i saw a lizard face at the middle^^ it's kinda.. smiling, on the left..

Thank you. It's quite interesting too have a look @ such bokeh areas and look for typical shapes.
I like it very much to look @ seemingly random arranged shapes and identify some things.
For example the base for another of my deviations [link] was a shape on a slab in my bathroom, I was looking on again and again.

yeah, it's like when you look at the wooden door and see there a face or something else in these lines and spots, it catches your atantion and then never lets it go)

CRITIQUE
Your border is much too distracting and take away from the rest of the picture.

You are right. I dimmed and blured the frame a little more.
Thanks for your feedback.

What do you think about it now?

Reduce the size of the border. I think it looks rather odd that the x and y axis borders are different sizes, but if you're dead set on keeping them that way, I would suggest pulling it back to something more like this: [link]
The blue is the new desired(possible) border size.
But simple black borders work very well. Having the blurred image being darker in the border is fairly distracting. It leaves the viewer trying to figure out what is there.

I think it's a matter of taste. And in case of frames they differ very much.
Of course simple black or white frames are always good for photographies, at least in most cases, ... some photos even look better without any frame.
But I wanted to try something different.
Personally I think that the radial blur drives the sight into the photographie and does not distract from the motive.
It has a very unique effect on photographies.
Of course some might ask what could be there, but i would not construe it as something negative.
In fact you could puzzle over every photograph's not displayed areas and those blured frame might show that it is not really important.
I for one like the frame, some others do also, some others might not.

Yes, now I'm seeing it, too.
I didn't notice before. Some kind of funny.
Looks like a sachem.
