I knew something was wrong as soon as I saw Black’s expression change.
“That’s not one of the mythical Gigyan artefacts, is it?” Black said, nervous… and for good reason, as I knew too well.
“What if it was?” I said calmly, knowing that so long as this box was in my possession, I’d not make the fatal mistake of opening it.
“Christ, why didn’t you tell me you were carrying a ticking time bomb of destruction?” Black said, suddenly extremely erratic. It was a demure that did not suit him “I could have-”
“I wouldn’t advise touching this box.” I said, rather factually “Not if you don’t want him to go and hunt you down for doing so.”
Black turned rather pale – a looked that remarkably contrasted quite nicely with his clothing.
“You realise they won’t allow that through the border?” Black said rather weakly.
“I know.” I said, not really knowing but bluffing that I did “I also know that if they do hold me up, Gigyas would probably become annoyed of the occupants of said place. So, that is why we’re going to the place I specified, if you please.” I added the last bit in to remind him he was supposed to be driving us to wherever I wanted to go.
Black took a while to regain his composure, but came back with a really backtalk reply of “Well, I do believe you haven’t actually specified anything other than ‘the general direction of that-a-way’.”
“Which is why I asked if you had a map.” I said, rather coolly, in order to show that I was still in control of the situation.
Black just looked at me through those shades of his, while fiddling with a compartment near my side. Another opening, in front of me, revealed a plethora of items I hadn’t seen before. Black took out a crude-looking bit of parchment-esque thing I knew as ‘ paper’, and snapped the lid of the compartment shut.
I opened the crumpled piece of paper. On it, was a crudely done drawing of the Whiteland (much less artistically done than on the Scriptures back in the home fort), which was basically a huge, wobbly circle-esque thing with little circles to represent the different islands. Of course, the Blackland wasn’t shown on this map, but maybe that was expecting too much. Anyway, the more interesting things of note were the small circles that were given names within the big, huge, squiggly line that represented the continent.
“ Primitive, right?” Black said, knowing full well I understood none of it “So, where do you want to go now?”
I looked hard at the map of little to no sense.
“You don’t happen to know a village, town or city-like town that we could acquire a heavy-weapons and technological expert, do you?”
