Description

Our triumphant return to the Realms under the Sea!

From Left to right: Aquaman (Kaizen), Otohime, Aqualord (Isora), Aqualass (Anaizen), Aquaman IV (Kaldur’Ahm), Tempest, and Aquagirl II (Lorena).

Aquaman: Kaizen Arata

Sword of Poseidon; High King of the Seven Seas, Deposed King of Atlantis

After ending the war with The Ryujin of Tetsuseken, Otohime leaves with the dragonoid warriors when they return to their home realm.  She feels that although she trusted him with her life, she does not trust Kaizen with her heart.  Kaizen also loses his claim to the Throne of Atlantis, when it is discovered that he is not the biological son of King Atlan.  Sometime later, he discovers the existence of the twin sister of his father, Atlanna; only to have it revealed that she is his true birth mother, and that as the older twin was the true rightful heir to the Throne of Atlantis.  She and her son embark on a new quest to locate the Sacred Staff of Storms to stop the latest threat to the Undersea Realms…The Trench.  The incalculably ravenous innumerable creatures are rallied into a nearly unstoppable army under one who threatens all of the undersea realms known only as, The Dead King.  After that threat is averted, a triumvirate of interstellar/otherdimensional sea gods arrives on earth searching for the sea god, Poseidon; seeking to claim retribution for a grave injustice committed ages ago.  With news of his prolonged absence from the earth, the sea gods vow to flood the earth to sate their thirst for vengeance and restitution.  A long thought dead rite of combat is initiated, allowing for an avatar to stand in Poseidon’s stead.  Kaizen is tasked to undertake a set of grueling trials necessary to be deemed and granted, The Sword of Poseidon; after which a gathering is convened at the otherdimensional location of Blood Reef, where he and a group of other avatars of various sea gods of the Earth do battle with: Captain Gall of Xoth, Commander Drogue of Ankhis, and Fleet Admiral Tyyde of Aquos; for the continued existence of their world…or watch it become a Drowned Earth.

- When I decided it was time to update Aquaman’s outfit, I chose to do so by adapting the Convergence armor from the New 52.

- I also wanted to incorporate the weapon he possessed during this arc, which was a dagger that could convert to a sword, and a trident.  The Trident configuration allowed him to control all of the elements; a feature which carries over to the MDCU.  He is shown holding it in its Sword configuration.

- Within the storyline, Kaizen will be recruited by Poseidon to become his champion, where he will have to battle with other emissaries of the gods against the Triumvirate of Sea Gods.  His mother, Atlanna will be involved as one of the emissaries as; The Sword of Sussano’o.

- After discovering that Atlan was not his father, as he had believed his whole life, Kaizen will learn that his biological father was a surface dweller that his mother fell in love with…in violation to his people’s laws.

- The trench storyline will play out like an undersea zombie attack.  Almost like the White Walkers in Game of Thrones, with the Dead King acting in a similar capacity as The Night King.

- The Dead King will ultimately be revealed as none other than…Kordax.  He will have his own band of Sea Swordsmen including; Slizzath of Rhakotis, Letifos of the Sher’hedeen, and some others.

Dragon Princess Otohime

Sword of Drakaina; Queen of Atlantis, Princess of Tatsuseken

Ryo-Wo, The Dragon Emperor of Tatsuseken mated with Drakaina, The Dragon Empress and together they had nine sons: The Dragon Kings; Ryushin-no-Kuzu , Yamata-no-Orochi, Kurikara-no-Fudou, Arashi-no-Kaji, Mizuchi-no-Seiryu, , Uwibami-no-Hayai, O'goncho-no-Kikin, Hanriu-no-Koudo, and Yofune-no-Nushi, and three daughters: The Dragon Princesses; Otohime, Toyotama, and Tametebako.  Otohime carried out the remained of her secret pregnancy in her father’s palace, after returning to her homerealm.  Although she had been branded a traitor during the War with Earth’s Seven Sea Kindoms, Her father’s return to his former stature granted her a reprieve.  However, her siblings were in no position to lead the Ryujin; her sisters had already married human land dwellers, and renounced their dragon heritage.  Her brothers were so consumed with battling each other and their own pursuits that none of them were available to have prevented the massive loss of resources that came with the War.  With Ryo-Wo deeming none of his children worthy of peacefully consolidating his Kingdom, he decided to prepare his grandchild to do so.  Otohime would be instrumental in his instruction, as she could not afford to be seen as standing against her Emperor’s wishes ever again.  Her seething rage at her betrothed’s betrayal made it easy, yet she still dreaded their eventual reunion.

- The Emissaries for the Battle at Blood Reef will be: Kaizen, Sword of Poseidon; Atlanna, Sword of Susano’o; Black Manta, Sword of Nephthys; Siren, Sword of Tethys; Mizuko (Deep Blue) Sword of Nimue; Kordax, Sword of Tiamat;  Pamiiyok Braku (Minor Disaster), Sword of Alignak;

- There will be other Gods with Sword bearers revealed later on, such as; Marduk, Leviathan, Styx, and Pele.

- Drakaina was a fearsome creature, who only gave her hand in marriage to Ryo-Wo after locked in battle for nine days and nights.  She showed glimpses of a softer side to her children, whom she gave nicknames to

- The Dragon Princess’ given name was Otohimera at the time of her birth.  However, after the death of her mother, everyone follows her father’s lead and referring to her only as, Otohime.  Kaizen, knowing that it was used as a term of endearment, occasionally chooses to call her Mera.

- Obviously, Otohime’s new weapon belonged to her Mother; she will use it to represent her realm at the Battle of Blood Reef.  I designed it after one of the tridents she used in an image from the comics.

Aqualord: Crown Prince Isora

Dragon Prince of Tatsuseken, Lord of Atlantis

The first born child and Heir to the Throne of Atlantis, Isora was born in the realm of Tatsuseken after the conclusion of the war with the Ryujin, when his mother returned to her home realm without informing her husband that she was with child.  He was raised in the Crystal Coral palace, Ryugu-jo.  After re-attaining his powers, memories, and stature, Ryo- Wo, the Dragon Emperor will have developed a stronger sense of familial bond than he had with his own children due to the influence of Fenghuang, The Pheonix Empress and the humans RJ Raymond and Dr. Martin Stein, that inhabit the form of his son; The Dragon King, Arashi no Kaji aka Firestorm. He decides to take a more active role in the rearing of his grandchild, Isora; preparing him for rule by having him expand that of the Dragon Kingdom by claiming his father’s throne…and those of all seven sea kingdoms.

- The character’s design is taken from Fire Emblem character, Corrin. He represents the mainstream character of Arthur (AJ) Curry Jr.

- Azumi no Isora is the name of the Shinto god of the seashore.  In Japanese mythology, he was the son of Toyotama, who was also referred to as Otohime; who Mera is an amalgamation of.  I chose this to replace the name of Arthur Jr, as it represented the character’s ties to both land and sea.

- Part of Isora’s myth also involved him conquering the Three Kingdoms of Korea with the Tidal Jewels of the Dragon King, which will be adapted into the MDCU.  The three Kingdoms Isora will conquer will initially be Tatsuseken, The Seven Sea Kingdoms, and The Surface World of Earth. This will be because of his connection to each of these through his parents.

-  After concluding that The Sea Kingdoms and the Surface world represent a singular kingdom, as it is all one world, Isora will attempt to make his third Kingdom to conquer that of Blood Reef.

- Isora has his father’s hair color and his mother’s eye color.  He also has more of the stoic demeanor of his mother’s father, Ryo-Wo.

- I did not draw Isora with a weapon, but I am considering having him utilize the merged Tridents of Poseidon and Triton belonging to his parents.  Perhaps his goal will be to acquire the Trident of Proteus as well to reform the Trident of Pontus, as an indicator of his rule over the Three Kingdoms.

Aqualass: Princess Anaizen

Dragon of Atlantis; Apprentice to Aqauaman (Kaldur’Ahm)

Born the second child of Kaizen and Otohime; The High King of the Seven Seas, The Dragon Princess of Tatsuseken, and The King and Queen of Atlantis.  Her older brother, the Crown Prince and Heir to the Throne of Atlantis, Isora was born in Tetsuseken at the conclusion of the Ryujin War.  Anaizen or as her parents call her, “Ahndi” was quite different from her brother and craved a life of adventure over that of rule.  She became playfully known as the Dragon of Atlantis; due to her ferocity in her combat training, attributed to her mother’s heritage.  Even though she could not trigger a transformation into a Royal Dragon, she was certainly capable of channeling the power of one to destructive results.  A grave threat would lead her to become apprentice to the Sword of Atlantis, training under her father’s former apprentice; The Mikogeki Sea Shaman, Kaldur’Ahm: Sword of Shinda’ntis.  They would be transported to a far off location where she will train to eventually claim the weapon and Title of Sword of Atlantis for herself.

-Ahndi has her mother’s hair color and her father’s eye color; the opposite of her brother.  Her demeanor is more…untamed, like her father’s mother, Atlanna.

- Ahndi and Isora will eventually face each other as rivals.

- Ahndi’s design is adapted from her comics’ appearance.

- Ahndi’s godmother is none other than King Nuada Silverhand, Sword of Theirna na Oge

- Ahndi will have a host of abilities, including her father’s ability to communicate with sea life, her Dragon abilities from her Tatsuseken heritage, and she will also have a low level of magical aptitude due to her rudimentary tutelage from Nuada; which includes utilizing the Waters of Xebel and minimal Metalweaving/crafting skills.

- Ahndi will continue to be a difficult pupil to Kaldur, which will be heightened by her resentment of being with him and not her parents.

Aquaman IV: Kaldur’Ahm

Sword of Atlantis; Waterweaver, Lightningweaver, Mikogeki (Sea Shaman; In-training)

When the life of the Atlantean Royal Princess Anaizen was endangered, she was placed under the protection of Kaldur’Ahm and transported to a location off-world to ensure her safety.  Kaldur was given the Sword of Atlantis, despite no longer being directly in the line of succession, to use it to protect her and eventually train her in mastering its Waterweaving Forms.  He would claim the title of Aquaman while training her in the use of the Apprentice Swords: Sharkstooth and Reefcutter, to prepare her for training to become the Sword of Atlantis herself.  Kaizen’s armor and clothing are mystically changed to reflect the colors of The Aquaman when The Sword is transferred to him.

- This version of Kaldur represents the character’s growth as represented in Season 3 of the Young Justice animated series, where he joined the Justice League as its new Aquaman when Orin retired to focus on his kingdom and family.

- I altered his hair to more resemble the animated version, but wanted to keep the length so I shaved the sides and had him pull it back.  It also harkens to how he looks in the comics where Andy Curry, the Future State Aqualass/Woman becomes his charge.

- Kaldur’Ahm’s mother, Sha’lain’a is the granddaughter of Kordax.  She too has inherited the golden hair of the Mad King, and it isn’t until Kaldur reveals his Atlantean heritage that she refrains from dyeing hers and hiding her connections to the Royal Family.

- Sha’lain’a and Kaldur have officially renounced any claim to the throne their connection to Kordax may have given them. Their cousin, Issitoq as the son of Prince Koryak has also renounced his place in the line of succession and any claim to the crown.

- Kaldur’s connection to the Sword of Atlantis was never erased, even though he was no longer the official Apprentice.  He had also trained long enough and seen enough of its use to adequately train Ahndi.

- I wanted his apprentice to start off with the traditional training swords, as every apprentice to the Sword of Atlantis, but I have not decided if she will keep the Sword, or it will remain with Kaldur, or return to Kaizen; but eventually a new weapon will be introduced that will resemble her Future State weapon…there is a strong likelihood that I will have it become, the Sword of Tatsuseken.

- With the loss of both The Sword of Atlantis and its training swords, The Kingdom would to a certain extent be left defenseless, so Kaldur would leave his Waterbearers in the care of Aquagirl: Lorena Marquez to defend their home, who will work with Tempest (who reclaims his ties to his former realm) to defend the city in their absence.

Tempest: Zenjiro

Shichidai (Sword of The Seven Elements); Shukukannagi (Sea Shaman; Master level);

During his Shaman Quest, Zenjiro trains under the travelling Shido-so Shaman Samurai, Toshio Eto; attempting to learn more of his newfound abilities and master as many elements as he possibly can.  Part of his journey in acquiring a new element, involves the addition of an Arkanninque Tattoo; enchanted ink of mystical runes permanently applied to his body, allowing for stabilization of the attunement.  After gaining an attunement to each of the Seven Elements, Zenjiro embarks on a Quest to locate the Shichidaiten; Legendary Sword of the Seven Elements, to necessitate the use of only one weapon to channel his elemental forms through, rather than the multiple ones he acquired under the tutelage of Toshio.  Tempest’s quest for the Sword concludes upon the discovery that he already has located it; as he acquired the title of Shichidaiten upon completing his training as one of the rare mortals capable of such a feat.  Zenjiro realizes he no longer needs a weapon as a conduit and becomes a master in his own right.  Returning to Windward Home to train his shaman students in mastering their own dual attunements and shamanic abilities and duties, he renounces ties to Atlantis as his new station is that of spiritual protector of all the Undersea Realms.

- Tempest’s design is based off of his most recent DC comics’ incarnation with the team, The Titans.

- I wanted to incorporate a reason for his multiple tattoos and decided it only made sense to use the previously established concept of Arkaaninque Glyphs, utilized by Kaldur’Ahm, Lagaan, and the other Mikogeki to help them harness their secondary elemental attunement and abilities.

- Each of Tempest’s tattoo’s are located on a different part of his body and represent one of the elements:  Eye - Shadow; Left arm – Ice; Right arm – Fire; Back – Air; Chest – Water; Left leg – Lightning; Right leg – Earth.

- Although Tempest cannot reproduce the same exact effects of high level weaving techniques, he has learned to do less powerful scaled back versions of some, such as The Sword of Atlantis’: Chimaera Cascade, or The Sword of Su’Phalla’s: Pyronic Convergence. His true strength comes from combining elements to create all new techniques of his own, just as powerful as a High Level technique…if not moreso.

 - After setting up residence in Windward Home, Zenjiro begins a romantic relationship with Dolphin: Sword of Shindagha.  Eventually she becomes pregnant with his child, and relinquishes the Sword to her apprentice, Shark.  The pregnancy will produce a son, Cerdian.

Aquagirl II: Lorena Marquez

Waterbearers: Hiromitsu and Shiromitsu; Apprentice to Tempest (Zenjiro);

Lorena, started her tenure as a Sword Apprentice to Aquaman: Orm after she and her fellow citizens were converted to sea breathers by mad scientist, Anton Geist.  After taking on the mantle of Aquagirl, Lorena spent a lot of time training with Kaldur’ahm; she takes her responsibility to protect The Sword very seriously and with him as a former apprentice, he has a lot to offer her…as well as helping her adjust to the customs of Atlantis.  Even with the help of Kaldur, there were times of difficulty she experienced in her new existence, and she started to have brief bouts of depression.  Zenjiro, as a former member, recommended she take advantage of her ability to be in both worlds and arranged to have her spend some time working with the Teen Titans; to be around other kids her age from the surface world. He knew the benefits the group had on himself and Kaldur as well, and sent her to Titans Tower to get her own experience.

- Although Lorena apprenticed for Orm, she has a special bond with Kaizen as it was he who saved her life by bonding her to the Sword of Atlantis, allowing for her new lease on life.  She has a lot of respect for him and values any time she can spend with him and gain perspective or insight into being a better warrior or person.  She kind of gives everyone else attitude, while remaining respectful.

- Lorena is on a Teen Titans squad alongside: Electromagnetic manipulator, Static; nano morphic size shifter, Molecule; and geo-thermal charged high-tech armored fighter, Supergirl: Steel.

- During her tenure with the Titans, her squad will engage with a cell of Terror Titans led by, Bombshell.  The two will find themselves separated from their respective groups and stranded together on a deserted island after an inter-dimensional portal mishap while traveling the Sanzu no Kawa (river of three crossings), the waterways of the Subtle Realms.

- Aqualad likes spending time with Lorena for reasons other than combat training and teaching her the ways of the Undersea Kingdoms.  He is attracted to her physically, as her spirit reminds him of Umiko (Tula), even though she is No princess…which he likes.  Lorena openly acknowledges the mutual physical attraction, but is focused on her training, and not wanting to derail it with a romantic entanglement.

- Although she is not looking to engage in a relationship, Lorena does enjoy flirting with Kaldur and other Teen Titans and Mikogeki…specifically Issitoq aka Narwhal. She will form close friendships with him as well as Static and Blue Beetle II.

- Although her flirtatious demeanor is endearing to her male cohorts, it has been known to cause some problems involving jealousy, especially amongst some of her female contemporaries such as fellow Titans; MS Martian, Traci 13 and Mikogeki, Cora.

- Lorena has adapted the custom of Atlantean apprentices wearing a topknot to denote their rank.  She did not at first, but her education in Atlantean customs and history of her predecessors gave her a new respect and appreciation for their established traditions.  She will also share her surface world customs with them.
