Thanks. One of the reasons I think this works is because I've started to edit my pictures in raw before I convert to jpgs now. So, there is a quality you get that wouldn't be there if I edit in Jpegs. I still use do a little on my jpg files though. Maybe this is what everybody else does anyway, but I have only discovered this recently!

Well, it might not be why some don't like your work. I know some photographers who still use film and don't really like retouching it in any way but their is still admired. I think having a style and experience in what you do is more important than whether you scan/use digital. Think about it. Photographs were popular before digital came about! One of my photos on this site which some really love is just an old film photo I did which isn't cropped, i scanned the negative and posted it here and it is so love by some. I don't think you should just change over to digital if film is what makes you feel comfortable. Nothing wrong with changing to digital but I don't think it's what makes good photography. I think good photography doesn't happen overnight. It happens slowly, thoughtfully learning what works and doesn't work. I think you are in the same situation as me, just finding your style. I think your work is great by the way. I get a sense though, that you are still learning how to be 'you'. I am too. I think you should do what I'm about to do - use film AND digital. You learn so much.

i have got stale as i am not doing enough photography ,i think i have lost my edge ,but this will return . when i was refering to digital i was refering to how much people are manipulating there work ,so many pics are retouched now its getting to be hard to find where the shot starts an the manipulating begins .
i help out at a studio once a week doing clients who specify b&w is wanted . one of the other togs there used to be really methodical an take care in his work , now he just machine guns the shots out an when the owner asked why he said dont worry will sort it in ps
in a way i am trying to find myself in a style but i like the simplicity of my work an let that show through but alll people seem to care about is the wow factor an just dont take time to look at a shot an study it for what it is .
i like your work its fairly simple as mine is but your work is refreshing ,think next shoot my do a bit more colour work an see how that goes
