Description
This is a custom figure I have just finished working on of a character called Scorpia from the classic She-Ra cartoon series. You can see the cartoon version of the character here.

However, I wanted this figure to fit in with the style of the vintage Princess of Power action figures from the same time. The style of the vintage POP figures possessed certain characteristics of the cartoon characters but never looked 100% like them so I wanted to continue that same idea in this custom Scorpia.
Here you can see the a picture which shows the difference in design between some actual She-Ra cartoon characters & their vintage figures.

To make this vintage POP style Scorpia I used the head from a Catra figure, the body & arms from a Glimmer figure, the legs from a She-Ra figure & some pink hair from an Entrapta figure.
I started by rooting the Entrapta hair around the hairline of the Catra head which gave her hair a nice 2 tone effect of pink & black. I then trimmed the ends of the pink hair as it was longer than the black & then styled her hair using the boiling water method.
Once her hair was finished I repainted her eye makeup to match the style of the cartoon characters makeup.
The next thing I made was her tiara/helmet. I drew out a template on paper which was a simplified version of the cartoon characters helmet & then stuck it onto a pink plastic hair gel bottle.
Next I cut around the template which left me with the shape of the tiara cut out in plastic.
I then pierced 4 tiny holes in the sides of the tiara where I stitched some black elastic in place. This is how the tiara stays on place on Scorpia’s head. To finish the tiara I cut out a design in pink holographic tape & attached it to the front. This same ides was used in the official She tiara which you can see here.

Once her head was complete I then started working on her body.
Firstly I separated the figure just under the crotch which meant I could open it & remove the Glimmer legs. I then drilled a small hole at the tail bone area. I got some flexible wire & attached a small bead to the end of it. I then threaded the wire through the hole on the figure (from the inside) which meant the bead was inside the figure & stopped the wire coming out the other end.
I threaded some pink tear drop shaped craft jewels into the wire to create her scorpion tail.
After that I sculpted a stinger at the tip of the tail using fixit sculpt which kept all the beads in place.
I also sculpted her claws using fixit sculpt.
Once the sculpt had set I then added the She-Ra legs to the Glimmer body & stuck the crotch back together.
Next I painted her using humbrol enamel paints. In the cartoon Scorpia’s outfit was black pink & red. However for this custom I decided to lose the red & have different shades of pink instead. I thought this would help her fit in better with the style of the other vintage figures. This same idea was used for the official Catra figure’s outfit.
Once I completed the painting I then moved on to making her accessories. To make the top part of her outfit I used the top part of Glimmers outfit & drew round it to make a template. This was to make sure Scorpia’s outfit fitted her correctly. I then modified the design of the template to make it suit Scorpia better. Next I got some black faux leather & attached some pink self adhesive foil to the back of it. I than stuck my template to the fabric & cut around it. I cut out some designs in holographic tape & stuck them to the shoulder sections of her outfit. To finish this section off I attached 2 popper buttons to the back.
Next I started working on her belt/skirt. For this I got an old She-Ra belt & used it to make a template which I then modified to suit Scorpia. As with the top section of her outfit, I used the same black faux leather & foil for her belt. Once the belt was cut out I then added a diamond shaped design to the front using the same pink holographic tape I used before.
For the skirt I got some pink fabric from an old ‘Veils of Mystery’ fashion seen here

I stitched it around the belt. I then cut it into a shape which I felt suited Scorpia & was reminiscent of her cartoon design. I then got some black tulle fabric & cut a small triangle section which I stitched to the front of the belt. To complete it I stitched 2 small popper buttons to the back.
To finish her off I replaced the jewel on her chest with a pink one to match her outfit.
I realize a lot of people may not like this version of Scorpia as she does not look like the actual cartoon character but the main reason behind her design was to make her tie in better with the vintage figure line from the 80’s which I hope I have achieved.
If you prefer the cartoon design please feel free to check out my other Scorpia custom figures which you can see in the links below…
