Description
This is one of my four Harlequine charries {but as of now, the only one I've drawn so far}, Nevermore. He's based on Edgar Allen Poe's poem The Raven, after I was inspired by reading it while browsing through a bookstore xDD I bought that book afterwards. Edgar Allen Poe is FREAKING AWESOME.

When he was born at the stables, a raven perched on one of the wooden bars in the stall and kept crowing, "Nevermore." So that is what the humans named him.

As Nevermore grew, he became very attached to the bird. When the humans separated them, thinking the raven would distract Nevermore in his training, they both reacted violently. The raven screeched infinitely, "NEVERMORE! NEVERMORE! NEVERMORE!" and Nevermore himself went ballistic. He went on a rampage, tearing after the man who had the raven in the cage with a manner of insanity. Nevermore reared and struck a fatal blow to the man's head. The cage fell to the ground and Nevermore trotted in nervous circles around it, tossing his elegant head. One of the humans cautiously approached, managing to get to the cage and releasing the raven. Nevermore calmed instantly and the raven stopped its screeching.

After the incident the owners were extra careful not to separate them again, and the beginning of Nevermore's training went smoothly. But one day, Nevermore was unusually stubborn and was spooking at nothing. Even the raven seemed distressed. The humans were confused and they feared that Nevermore's training would be held back because of it. They took him to numerous vets, but none of them could figure out what was wrong with him. Having no where else to turn, they paid a very expensive amount of money for a famous vet that they hoped and prayed would solve this mystery.

The vet took about five hours to complete Nevermore's examination. She finally told the owners and trainers that there were two possible reasons for Nevermore's strange behavior: either he was hallucinating or he was one of the rare types who could see ghosts and other paranormal beings.

The humans at the stable decided to try out the paranormal theory first. They burned white sage and spread the smoke with a white feather. It seemed to do the trick, and Nevermore's training continued on normally.
Three months later, Nevermore showed the same disturbed signs as before. The humans repeated the incantation, this time drawing the sign of the cross with olive oil around the stable property and sprinkling salt at all the entrances and exits. It did nothing to sooth the Harlequine stallion, so they chose to try out the hallucination theory.

They built a room with nothing in it, only having plain white walls, and put Nevermore inside. They listened for any nervous activity, and heard much of it. There was no explanation for his spooking, as there was nothing in the room that could possibly scare him. When the humans retrieved Nevermore, they noticed that the raven was perfectly calm.

From these occurrences, they gathered that Nevermore can both see ghosts as well as hallucinate. They brought a priest who rid the stables of the spirits. The hallucinations occur infrequently, but no noticeable pattern can be tracked.
