Description Take cover – here comes the romantic overload... ... after four or five retries... my internet connection is really hating me.. ...

Leon left the airport, stopped a taxi and was soon on the road again, after he had given the driver Claire’s address. His black SUV was still in Washington on the military base and would probably brought to his home in a few days with a special code card - or wherever he wanted it. The taxi ride was not long, and finally the car stopped in front of a large apartment building with its own lobby. Leon got out of the taxi, threw his black bag on his back and suppressed a curse and a cry of pain. Anderson had filled him up with painkillers that he sometimes forgot that there was something wrong ... until the moments when he used the shoulder again so it hurt that terrible that even the medicines couldn’t help anymore. Leon paid the taxi, then he walked into the lobby, while the snow began to pile up on the sidewalk and at the entrances. In Chicago, they were accustomed to snow, but this time it was too much somehow ... maybe a bit too much. Leon walked into the lobby and saw half satisfied, half worried that there was no porter and went straight to the elevators, because after a quick glance over the counter, he knew in which apartment and which floor he found Claire. Terra Save paid obviously not only Claire’s study but also the home ... Leon just hoped that this wouldn’t come back to them like a boomerang. Leon stepped into the elevator and then leaned at one of the walls with a sigh. He was tired and slowly the shoulder wound seemed to take it’s toll. He only hoped, Claire was at home because he had no desire to pick the lock - which probably would be impossible anyway and breaking the door down with force wouldn’t work either... the worst case would be waiting at the door. Leon left the elevator after he had reached the correct floor and then looked quickly from one apartment to the next and Claire’s was almost directly in front of his nose. Leon sighed and knocked. One minute, nothing happened, and Leon was willing to knock once more when he heard footsteps and then an unmistakable "click" - the Browning had just been released and if Leon didn’t pay attention now, he would be getting a 9mm Parabellum bullet in the head and there he really didn’t want to have it.

A second later, every thought was wiped away and the door was flung open. Like a storm, Claire threw herself forward and embraced Leon and as a reflex, Leon returned the gesture – despite the black sports bag on his back and his injured shoulder that protested against every kind of straining and contact. Leon – a head taller than Claire – buried his face in her neck and held her tight. Claire did the same, because it simply had been too long. A few moments the two were just standing silently in the hallway and held each other – Claire still with her Browning in her hand.

Finally, Leon pushed his old friend away and brushed a loose strand of her forehead. "Hello," he said with a gentle smile.

Claire laughed and Leon saw tears glistening in her eyes. "Hello too," she said, before she laid a hand on Leon's cheek. Almost instinctively Leon closed his eyes and leaned into the touch, because Claire's cool fingers were a blessing. "You do not really look good. What have you done? "

Leon opened his eyes and Claire could clearly see that they were clouded by pain and exhaustion. "Inside," asked the agent and Claire nodded. Slowly it she started to freeze herself only dressed with jogging pants, socks and top. The young woman secured the weapon in her hand and let Leon in the apartment before she closed the door behind him. Leon slipped the bag of his uninjured shoulder and put it on the floor of the little corridor before he tried to get out of his jacket ... almost an impossibility, because his shoulder protested so much that he got sick with almost every move. Claire put the 9mm on the coffee table and came back.

"Put off your boots – you won’t need them ... underfloor heating ... but the way you act, you've ruined your right shoulder," she said, and then helped Leon out of his jacket.

"Not me – a Norwegian police officer," Leon defended himself half-heartedly, before the sat down on the floor to take off his high combat boots. He didn’t crouch, but sat down completely out of fear of falling over if he put his head down. Leon removed his boots, before he was getting up with a helping hand from Claire. Together they walked into the living room and Claire signed to Leon to sit on the couch before she sat down beside him and pulled her legs under her body. Leon put his head aside and looked at her with a smile. "I was send to Norway to investigate a few connections to Umbrella and when we tried to arrest a group of terrorists, I went for a little swim in the harbor... with three bullets in my shoulder.”

Claire blinked and stared at Leon for a moment. "Seriously," she asked.

Leon nodded. "I didn’t really want to come that unannounced. I'm sorry."

The young woman smiled and it was an honest smile. "Chris has indicated something like this in morning when he called, but I suspected he wanted to say that he’s stopping by. Did you call him? "

Leon nodded. "I suspect a plant of Umbrella in Russia. I wanted to know if he might have heard something. "The young agent paused for a moment. "How are you?" He asked, his voice was gentle.

Claire paused for a moment before she looked at Leon. "The study is taking quite a lot of free time to complete and there is not much time left for the private life of course. The only male that comes and stays here regularly is Chris. "

Leon smirked. "At least you are in your own home. I haven’t entered my flat in the last ... three ... four ... seven weeks - only to take a shower. I get in, take a shower, change my clothes, repacking things and out again. Someone could break into the apartment and I would notice after six months. "

"Any valuables?" Claire asked, leaning her head on her hand.

"No," replied Leon. "Just my armory."

The aspiring lawyer raised an eyebrow. "Do you have plants in the house?"

Leon shook his head. "Only artificial trees," he replied with a grin. "Quite some dust catcher."

"May I ask you something?" remarked Claire and her voice had a certain hesitation. Leon nodded. "Why are you here? We haven’t seen each other for four years. Why now? "

"Good question," replied Leon and an incredible fatigue and exhaustion crept into his voice. "Last year I had difficult mission in South America and at that time I already felt I should call you. I had a long talk with Chris and he said the same thing. I think I've tried four times to make contact with you, but every time they had me sent to the middle of nowhere. At the hospital in Norway, the doctor asked me if I can slip under somewhere, where someone has an eye on me. I said yes, because there would still be my parents or my sister. Somehow the whole, however, felt wrong ... If you ask me now why, I don’t know ... I just know that when I am with you I can let down all the walls, I can drop all defenses ... With you I can be how I am and mustn’t be necessarily strongly ... You've seen me after Raccoon City ... with you I don’t have to prove anything. With you I'm secure ... all of me ... heart, mind, body, spirit and soul ... I just need you ..." Leon paused a moment, looked forward, and then looked back to Claire. "Does this make any sense now?"

Claire smiled. "Yes, old friend. It makes sense, "she replied, then she leaned forward and kissed Leon's forehead. For a moment she paused, then kissed him gently on the lips. It took only a moment and like a reflex, Leon returned the kiss and in his ears rang a name ... his heart cried Claire's name ... just as Chris had said six months ago.

Finally Leon broke the kiss. "I'm sorry," he whispered softly.

"Nothing to apologize," Claire said with a gentle smile. "At least we both know where we stand now - but I think we should take things slowly."

"Won’t go otherwise," murmured Leon and Claire wiped a strand of hair off her forehead. "But you are worth it." Leon smiled, then he breathed a kiss on Claire’s lips.

"Thanks for the compliment," said Claire. "But I think we better get you in the bed now. With a triple-perforated shoulder you are not going to stay on the couch. "Leon sighed and let himself be help up by Claire. His knees were almost like pudding, and for a moment, Claire had to stabilize him even. "You really need sleep," she muttered, then put his left arm over her shoulder and wrapped the other around his waist. "How much blood did you lose?"

"Ask an easier question," growled Leon exhausted. "I was worth two blood transfusions and a whole bunch of electrolytes." A wry smile crossed his face as Claire pushed the door of the guest room open with her foot and clicked the light switch with her elbow. "Nice apartment you are have here, by the way. A lot more comfortable than mine. "

Claire laughed. "I live in my apartment, unlike you. Do you even have furniture? "

"The rumors say yes, if only a bed," replied Leon quick-witted – even if his voice sounded more tired.

"Is that a hint?" asked Claire.

Leon looked at her as she stopped in front of the bed. "Better not," he said. "I have to use the bed a few times as a trampoline. The slats are still that hard – it’s softer to sleep on the floor and right now I think we both only had limited fun. But I think my bed is dying to meet you... It heard a few stories about you. "

"That I believe at once." Claire laughed and sat Leon carefully down on the bed and looked at him. "You really aren’t at home that often, are you?"

The agent shook his head, then pulled the Glock from the holster on his back awkwardly and laid it on the bedside table. His black shoulder holster wasn’t really recognizable over his black t-shirt, while the holster on his thigh was more than obvious. This holster made the check-in at the airport always so interesting. Leon always had in the documents with him, which legitimated him to carry a weapon in the national and international air traffic, but sometimes one airport officials believed that he had to puff itself up like a bird in courtship. "I know probably every military base around the world and every fourth hotel better than my own apartment," said Leon, rubbing his forehead. He put the Silver Ghost to the Glock on the bedside table and then looked at Claire. "I feel like I have been chewed and spat out."

"You certainly look like it," Claire said with a worried sigh. "I'll pick up your bag and you try to get out of the other holsters. With those things you cannot sleep! "

"Well, I can," murmured Leon and shook the holster of his uninjured shoulder. "It's just bloody uncomfortable."

Claire shook her head and then left the room briefly to fetch the bag. "Holy shit," she called from outside. "Do you have a set of bricks in there or something."

Leon paused in his motion, because for a moment he really had to consider with which bag he had flown to Norway ... and what he had carried in the bag. It was not long until he realized what added the additional weight. "I think it is ammunition for my Silver Ghost ..." Leon paused, then he rolled his eyes. "And the case with the sniper rifle at the bottom."

"You carry a sniper rifle in your luggage?" Claire said, shaking her head as she carried the bag into the sleeping room and throw it on the floor next to the bed. This time – as she listened carefully – she heard the significant impact of the bag on the floor. She sat back down on the bed next to Leon, who had taken off his shoulder holster and put his knife next to the two 9mm pistols on the bedside table.

"You never know when you have to take something out from a distance," said Leon.

In my younger days, when laptops were expensive like hell (and I had to use the desktop computer of my brothers) my oldest brother always said to me: “Never change a running system!” I should have listened to him. When I made this picture I tried something with the light-effects of photoshop with the result, that I can’t load any of the pre-installed settings anymore. I could bite myself in the rear for that, because reinstalling photoshop doesn’t solve the problem and the internet is no help either. In future setting the lights will be quite funny.

Would you believe that your fanfic for this gave me some much needed ideas for a story I started last year and got stuck with?!

So in a way, your writing gave me some help with one of mine.

Thanks darling!

Glad I could be of help - funny enough - that story is actually only the part of a pretty huge story.

Well, for an excerpt, it was enough. I tried to make sure I didn't copy the setting exactly, but there's some things about it that will be similar.
Don't know how long it will take to finish, so keep you eyes peeled.
But where's the rest?! Would love to have seen it!

I will definitely keep my eyes open.

The rest of the story - or better the first of three or four arcs can be found here: nightyswolf.deviantart.com/gal… . Nine chapters are released, the second arc is already translated but Google is a bad translator. I have to check the grammar again and that is really exhausting sometimes.

That's ok. As long as it's in English, I have a fair idea of what you're trying to say in the story. And thanks again for the help it gave me.

Actually, I had that excerpt saved to read more closely offline to refer to as reference because it had fit perfectly what I was trying to put together with my story. It gave me a blueprint of ideas that I hadn't thought of to try and use, and be able to weave with my own style to make it different.

I hope you don't mind, and be rest assured I would never try to steal your stuff. Your work - both fanart and fiction - have been a massive pool of inspiration to me as a fan writer. The last thing I would want to do is disrespect your talent by trying to flog it off as mine.

Well, English and something similiar to English. When I translated the first chapters I was pretty rusty cause I hadn't used my English in ten years, but now I'm fluent in it again. Strange how fast you can pick up a language again.

I don't mind at all, that you use my stuff for inspiration. We have so different styles of writing that even the same idea would come out absolutely different. Unlike you I'm not so good in writing those small moments - I'm more for action and huge storylines. I love to see what you can make out of my ideas. And the second arc of the story (which I have to spellcheck) is something different all together. Less Cleon and more angsty and disturbing even. It's based on the scrapped ideas of RE4.

I'm glad you're ok with that. The main reason why my fanfics have been oneshots, is because I find it easier to concentrate on a particular scene and drag it out. I just don't have the dedication and patience to do a twenty part story. Even though a few of my stories have been two part fics.
When it comes to action scenes I'm bloody hopeless. So if I used your writings for that in one of my stories, feel honoured!
So, your b'day is on this week how old do you feel?! LOL!

NightysWolf In reply to NessaJayn [2014-02-22 10:04:06 +0000 UTC]

I'm writing short snippets for Final Fantasy right now, because it's easier as well, but that RE became a self-runner at one point. I had a lot of ideas for oneshots and then started to develop a plot out of the single ideas.

Since I've written a "Lord of the Rings" before, I had to write fight-scenes as well, although it's a bit different writing a swordfight and one with guns. I'm already feeling honoured that you can draw inspiration from my stuff - that is a huge, huge compliment!

Actually for someone who is getting 30 I feel kinda... childish and bouncy. I might have the chance to get my hands on a few models of the new "Lightning Returns" I really want and behave like a kid at christmas day! So I'm feeling more like 10 than 30.

Seriously?!!! I can't believe I'm older than even you! I'm mid thirties, but the good thing for me is I look younger than my age. LOL!
I didn't think much of Lighting Returns. It felt like an bit of a letdown from the main story. Hopefully you can do something better with it, LOL!

NightysWolf In reply to NessaJayn [2014-02-22 22:26:51 +0000 UTC]

Yupp, seriously! But I know what you mean - I look way younger that I really am. Sometimes it's a benefit and sometimes a curse!

Lightning Returns reminds me a lot of Legend of Zelda with all those sidequests, but I actually like that. Running around, finding stuff - for me it's a lot of fun.

Gosh darlin' I feel old now. Excuse me while I go check for wrinkles!

(Nup, no wrinkles, everything's where it should be, it's all good! )

Seriously, when I saw that photo of you in that German dress, I actually thought you were in your thirties, not turning thirty this week!

I'm glad I'm not the only one who doesn't look their age, especially without three layers of make-up on!

Unlike you, I don't look at it as a curse, I love seeing people gobsmacked when they realise my real age.

NightysWolf In reply to NessaJayn [2014-02-23 07:10:37 +0000 UTC]

Well, I'm not really running around in that kind of cloths all the time - I prefer shirts, steeltoe-boots and cargopants. Aside from the fact that this dress is bloody uncomfortable and I can't get out of it on my own.

I'm not really seeing my looks as a curse, but sometimes it's strange when you are asked for your papers if you are allowed to buy something.

Here here! I'm like you, dress for comfort. I know they say beauty is pain, that dress for you must feel like an iron maiden, lol!

Definitely just a costume - I'm wearing this in a medieval festival that is held in my hometown every three years. It's designed after a dress from 1500 and despite the fact that it's made of silk it's too warm in there. But better silk than velvet - my mother is wearing a dress completely made out of green velvet... she made it 1975.

Well, I've been asked for my ID when I bought DVD's, mobile phones and a few other things.

It's interesting how countries have their own national costumes. Don't ask what the Australian national costume is because we really don't have one. :-D

Doesn't sound weird at all. Sometimes when you move a character, the textures are stretched to a point, that is a bit strange compared to the normal movement of a body. And thank you for your understanding.
