I actually don’t know exactly why I asked Dad for this favour and I’m grateful that he hasn’t asked for my reasons either cause I wouldn’t have been able to explain him. When I told him, that I wanted to go back to this horrifiying island where I had lived and survived for more than half a year, his eyebrow rose but then he simply nodded and went to get his mobile to pull a few strings. On the other hand – it didn’t surprise me, that when we got to the airport a day later a charter-plane was standing there and Claire Redfield and Leon Kennedy were waiting for us. Leon still looked like something the cat would have dragged in, since he had been on the island with the second and the third team to control the facilities and to kill off all the remaining monsters. The BSAA had requested that Leon came with them because of his experiences with the Regenerators in 2004. Natalia had been able to spot the weaknesses of these Revenants – so the BSAA had assumed that maybe Leon was able to eliminate those monsters with the thermal scope he had in Spain. It had worked, but Leon had literally bleed himself dry to get rid at least of the Revenants - especially after one had attacked a young BSAA-soldier and nearly ripped his head off!
Now I’m back on this island and the sand of the beach of the small fishing village is crunching beneath my feet. I can feel the holster of the gun at my thigh, but despite the fact that I still don’t like using guns it’s a calming weight. Well, these six months didn’t change everything but a few things. I start walking towards the passage that will lead me to the town and I can’t help but I feel the anger rising inside me. So many dreams, wiped away in the blink of an eye – so many dreams lovers had for each other, so many dreams brothers had for their sisters and the other way round, so many dreams that friends might have wanted to share. So many unfullfilled dreams parents had for their children...

While I wander the dark tunnels I have to remember the old man who took me in, gave me a home and was my guardian and companion for six months. The old man Evgeny. After he had rescued me out of the crumbling tower he told me to leave, but I didn't. After I had stayed he wouldn't have needed to help me... and yet he did. Kroshka, he called me, because he never asked for my real name and I think in these six months I was Kroshka...

The BSAA-soldiers told me, that they had found his remains in exactly the same spot where Dad had seen him and gave him a proper burial somewhere on the island, far away from all the destruction. But while I wander through the deserted town I can't help but to remember his deep grief, his sorrow, his sadness and his remorse when we found the last letter of his daughter Irina in the mines...

Kroshka... he never wanted to care for someone again - never wanted to be hurt again, when someone he cared about was leaving. Kroshka... not Moira... a way to keep a distance between us and yet, the distance disappeared over the months and the name Kroshka became a deeper meaning... to keep the distance and yet it had been the nickname of his daughter.

After wandering around the island I reach the spot I was looking for. It would have been faster if I had taken the way through the sewers but most of the monsters have been killed and walking on the surface is possible again. I can hear the waves crash against the cliffs and finally the wood is opening up before me. Evgeny told me, not to go out when it’s dark and to be back before nightfall. But sometimes, he would take me here to this place, just before sundown and together we were watching the sun setting the sky on fire, watch the display of a thousand colors and in these moments for both of us, the world was at peace and we as well.

The sun is starting to set and now I know why I wanted to return here. I want to say goodbye to the man who took me in despite me being a stranger, who helped me when I was lost. I want to see the sun one last time from this exact spot to honour this man and to say a silent prayer for all those who lost their lives and dreams in this place. I take off my gun, put it on the ground and I turn around to see my two shadows stepping forward to admire the view and I start smile. I take Claire and Leon by the hands and lead them to the very spot where I had been standing the first time when Evgeny showed me this place. And in this moment, when the sky is glowing red and the ocean is swallowing the sun I can say goodbye without regrets. Evgeny had dreams, his daughter had dreams - and a few of these dreams I will keep in my heart with the memory of them. Because as long as I remember them, they won't die.
