Hello! I'm here for the ProjectComment Comment Tag! My word is "personality".
I am IN LOVE with this picture! The character feels so real, it's like hes right here drinking tea with me! I feel like I know him just by looking at the picture, and that's really impressive. You've managed to give him a lot of charisma. I also really like the technique and style, it's the perfect balance of realistic and stylized! (Seriously, I keep pausing and scrolling up just to look at the picture again. It's that engaging!)
The only places for improvement that I could see are the chin, forearm, and back of the hand, and it's all pretty minor stuff. I think I know why you did it (the hand is pressing into the face slightly, I assume), but the way the chin goes out next to the hand is a little bit confusing to the eye. It kind of interupts the flow of the face, if you know what I mean. Also, something looks a tiny bit awkward about the forearm. I'm not really sure what, though. Possibly something about the angle and how it hypothetically connects to the elbow out of frame? And a tiny, tiny nitpick is that the hard line separating two areas of similar value on the back of the hand makes it look like the fabric of the shirt and the hand are on equal planes, or even that the fabric is closer to the viewer than the hand. Of course I'm commenting on a slightly older piece, and so I may be pointing out things you've since improved on (I know that my art from a couple of months ago is drastically different from my art now, and in some of my stuff you can even see where my skills improved while working on it!).
To sum it up, this is an awesome piece of art with only minor flaws that don't detract much from the final effect. (And if you decide to turn this into a print, just let me know....)
Your word is "light", you'll be commenting on something from sJibbi 's gallery!
(And now I go back and see the rules and it's supposed to be the most recent artwork that matches the tag word...derp. Guess I'd better start writing another comment! )

Wow, thank you so so much for this amazing comment!
I'm so glad that the picture has such a strong effect on you, that's amazing to hear! I'm actually very proud of this portrait too and think I've captured the character exceedingly well.
I understand what you mean about the critique point, they're very fair points and I would probably do them different today. But actually, though this picture is more than six months old, I'm still very happy with it and haven't improved all that much, I actually still think it's the best pencil portrait I've done to date. So it's good that you made your points, they're very helpful!
And hey, I can totally make this available as a print for you, I've got no problem with that whatsoever
Also don't worry about the comment maybe not being on the most recent artwork.. I think if this is the one that caught your eye with the tagword, that's absolutely fair, and as I said, it's not so old yet that your criticism isn't of any use to me. So don't worry about it

The shading looks very nice here! I especially like how you've drawn his hair. It looks so soft and floofy, like you just want to touch it. Great work!

Awesome work for just using a reference for the hand. The hair looks like it should if it were a real person! I like how the arms and facial expression looks.
