***Puna, Hawaii "Shacks" @ Pohoiki Bay
This is the surf spot where my sister has spent most her time learning to surf this past year.
I didn't get to see her go out when I visited this time, but I hope I have a chance to next visit! I am not only proud of that fact that she has taken up surfing, but also that she's chosen this spot to go. This side of the island is all black sand (if there is any, mostly it's black pebbles as you can see at the bottom of the pic! lol) so the water is very dark
I dont' like that!3 frames vertical stitch, cropped down a lot to get the right balance so it only looks like two.

Wow this is really great, you're a true talented photographer! Just out of curiosity , how did you manipulate the photo? Adjustments layers (Levels/Curves) or something? Tell me

I can't recall the specific step-by-step altering but I can tell you that I did use curve adjustment, that was the primary tool used. I most likely also used multiple layers at various opacities such as multiply, soft light, screen. Because the same adjustments have never worked on two different pictures for me, I don't usually pay too much attention to it. Thank you very much

No...but I traveled the islands for a 2 months almost 2 years ago with a few friends. We learned how to surf, and just took it all in. It was wonderful...and that was one of my favorite spots.

Well, I suppose they are pretty welcoming at Pohoiki, depending on who is around and who you know. that surprises me that you folks went there though! It is definitely not a tourist type spot, definitely not. Puna is not a tourist type area in general! You sure it was there you went??

We went there towards the end...we had met up with locals and they took us out. Yeah, we were definatley there...we went to Puna too tho... The occasion? Umm...it was right after we graduated and we just wanted to get away. We planned it forever and saved forever...definatley not a cheap trip!

Like you said tho, Puna is more touristy... We went everywhere. Well, maybe not everywhere but as much as we could. I had the most fun on Maui tho, as touristy as that sounds... The big island is gorgeous tho...I did love it.

Puna more touristy?? No no I didn't mean that! lol Puna is the least touristy part of the island, Kona is the touristy part.
Maui is awesome, actually I think that is the island to go to now, so I'm glad you got to enjoy yourslves there too!

My god, the lighting on this picture...it's unreal. It's hard to believe that places like this really exist in the world. The way you caught the light and the waves here seriously takes my breath away.

This photo is a portrayal of what I see, and what I want to see. It is my world. What do you mean by real colors? Do you mean the innacurate colors produced by my camera? Do you mean the colors that I saw as I stood there? Or do you mean the colors that another person would've seen? Am I confuseing you?

XD I guess if you look at it that way then the picture is 100% correct. What I really meant is did you take the raw pic and post it here or did it have a stop by for a cup of coffee and a makeover in ps or whatever prog you use.

It almost looks like a painting, but then again, that painting would have to be pretty darn clear to get that kind of texture. This is incredibly beautiful... the framing is fantastic, and I love the use of light. It has a surreal feel to it... almost like I'm in a dream. Wonderful shot. Take care!

Yeah!!!! Pohoiki!!!! My all time favorite spot on all the islands and a special place to me ; ) You captured it so beautifully! Unfortuantly I have not been back there since I started taking photos again but your pic inspires me to return soon! Very soon! Great work. I love the rich, dark tones.

over 5 years ago when I first moved to the islands my dear friend introduced me to that place. I learned to bodyboard at 2nd bay! Awesome! So I try to get back there from time to time but it's not that frequent. And I try to go to Kai Poha Tide Pools - if you've never been you must go!! I'll be over there in October the friend I mentioned is getting married - and she met her fiance at Pohoiki!!
I'm originally form Alaska. I have an acre on the Big Island, stuck working on Oahu for now.

What I really want to shoot over there is the green sand beach! I haven't been there for at least 15 years! It is only a vague memory that seems like a dream now.
