I love Jonathan Stroud books! I loved Bartimaeus and Nathaniel, and I'm absolutely adoring Anthony, Luce and George in their London full of ghosts!And I love to paint fanarts of book I like, so... here is Anthony Lockwood, from Lockwood & co.
Few days ago was published the US version of The Hollow Boy (that I have already read and it's absolutely brilliant!!!), while the UK release date is in few days, so I'm posting this fanart at a perfect timing to remind you to buy this great book

This is just amazing. I tried to draw Locky myself a few times with longer and more curls but yours is way better than that.
Actually it's the best Lockwood drawing I've ever seen online and offline.

It's a nice challenge because often I think I have them clear in my mind, but when I start painting I realise that my idea was not so clear...

ya I know that feeling. especially with characters where you think " they have to got brown hair/ be tall/ be an that age. and then suddenly the book says: nope their blond, tall and look completely different. Does your book also say that Lockwood has his hair combed back and that he has a thing for a bit to tight suits? Cause mine does

ahahahh I have to admit that when I painted this I actually searched for description in the first book (the only one that was published when I started the drawing), and I found it extremely loose in descriptions... I liked that, because like you I often have my own idea of the character and sometimes I realize that it's different from the descriptions in the book. In this case, I felt very free to imagine him as I wanted, for the most part. Then perhaps there were more descriptions in the following books, but I already got my idea from the first so I didn't even notice if they were in contrast with the image already formed in my mind.
In the first book, his hair was mostly described as an "unruly mop" or "flop of ruffled hair", and I sort of stuck to that image

Really? My Lockwood is not nearly described as cute as yours. I bet you don't have any problems painting him out of imagination. you've got an amazing style of art which makes him look young, adorable and a tiny bit serious just as he should be. I always end up making him look too young or too formal and I don't really have a stuck image of him
