Haha, well everyone likes to plug their fave anime I know, but you have GOT to see Noein. It's one of those under-appreciated titles that just seems to have slipped under the radar for some reason. I only discovered it by accident myself, and boy am I glad I picked it up!

Quick teaser summary here from wikipedia:

Fifteen years in the future, a violent battle using fictional technology takes place between two "timespaces": La'cryma, a possible future of our own universe, and Shangri'la, a dimension intent on the destruction of all space and time. The key to stopping Shangri'la's invasion is a mysterious object known as the "Dragon Torque". A group known as the "Dragon Knights" is sent through space and time to find it. In the present, twelve-year old Haruka and her friend Yū are contemplating running away from home when they meet a member of the Dragon Knights named Karasu. He believes that Haruka is the Dragon Torque and appears to be Yū from fifteen years in the future.

I normally prefer fansubs. Some of the jokes in the original translate better when the subbers take the time to explain the references, which official subs don't. Also, dubs tend to result in the Stereotypical Squeaky-Voiced Extra making an appearence.

To be fair, Cowboy Bebop didn't have one. I'd list more dubbed anime that I've watched... but I ran out.

Oh! Evangelion! But I erase it from memory. And Shinji was annoying.

Yeah, the fansubs for Noein are better done than the official English ones, it has to be said. They do explain things like the little cultural references more. Noein's dub wasn't bad at all, actually... the only thing that stuck out like a sore thumb to me was Uchida's weird-ass wandering accent. Noein's dub bloopers are the funniest I've heard since the classic Thundercats outtakes. I also like the fact that Yuu was voiced by a male in English. He's a bit of an annoying Shinji type character but that's not down to the dub in this instance; he's supposed to be an immature and self-centred 12-year-old. You get to find out that there's a good reason why he acts like he does too, and it provides a good contrast with... um, I'd better shut up before I give too much away!
