Senpai is something you call someone who is older than you or has worked for a longer time at the same job as you.
For an example, Maka and the others call Stein for "sensei" since he is their teacher.
Stein calls Spirit for "senpai" since Spirit is older than Stein.
At least I think he is older,
it's also possible Spirit just has been a weapon for an longer time than Stein has been a 'meister'.
