This was done in my spare time just as practice/an example because one of the things I really want to do with needlefelting is custom rat sculptures
Ratties have such a fun variety of markings and I think it would be so neat to be able to make little lifelike rat sculptures for people. If I do them for commission maybe I'll make them larger than this one.This is based on one of my past-rats, Brackle - unfortunately no longer with us. She is only 4 inches from nose tip to the base of the tail and her eyes are glass taxidermy eyes.
And holy crow I had such a hard time with the ears and feet.. still not 100% happy with them but they are so small and it's just hard to felt stuff that thin. I cut them off and redid them countless times *sigh*. Ah well. Looks like a rat (though a young one) in any case I guess

IF you were to do them as commissions how much would they be? I lost my first ratty in June and it's been so hard to get any custom ratty things!

She looks so realistic in anatomy, it's just astonishing, even the tail looks realistic. I'm also wondering, what type of material did you use to felt this?

I used a combination of fibers - the black is llama I believe, and most everything else is assorted types of sheep and maybe alpaca; don't remember specifically though. Thanks :]

WHOA!! from the thumbnail this totally looked like a reall rat and then I saw "Needlefelted Rat" .....and was like "NO WAY!!!" You did such an amazing job on this!!

The long sinewy tail right down to the "beady" (pun intended) little eyes.
Congratulations again on another realistically crafted animal. Your needlefelt skills seem to be improving, especially on a sculpture this size.
I'm not very familiar with rats, but I think the material you chose works well with a rat's bodily texture. Since this was just practice, I would assume you will continue to add more color and fur patterns to make them really unique.

First,congrats on the DD!I had them as pets and this caught my eye-wonderful realism and attention to detail.I read your comments and would like to offer a suggestion for the feet-use a wire armature and then wrap it .I would say this piece is the "real deal",not just practice!Great job!
