A rat club I'm in is doing a gift swap, so this is a gift for the person I got. From what I can tell, this ratty was very special to her, so I figured it'd be nice to do a drawing of her. Poncho herself was done with colored pencils, the background is a quick watercolor. The whole thing was done in maybe 4 hours. 5x7 in.EDIT: Just uploaded a much better scan of it...now it's very much not purple. This is how it looks in real life, more or less.

The resemblance to my rat is astounding; the brown and black fur on the head is identical to my ratty--even the line that extends down the back!

It's very difficult to make realistic-looking black animals. I always have to resist the temptation to color them in black instead of insinuating it with blues and browns (like they would look in real life). This is a beautiful, masterful piece of work! Poncho's momma is very lucky to have such a winderful tribute.
