We all know that the shifter and human races were basically never that close, but ten years later, it went from bad to worse...

The shifters were ousted from their homes in the different cities in the south... Which means that some shifters were out of a home and was forced into hiding. If they were even caught as a human transforming into an animal, they would be kicked out of their house. People were very fearful of shifters. Especially the royal lines. What would they do? Fortunately and unfortunately, shifters were few in numbers so there were no invisible cameras anywhere to be seen. Shifters only made 1% of the population.

Even more fortunate, the shifters were of spiritual descent. Humans believed that shifters were of genetics that can only be found out if they shifted. Only a psychic could find them out. No one barely believed them. The shifters that hid their powers could live in peace...

Unfortunately, Mercury's parents wasn't so lucky. They were found out due to one of their royal subjects which was a Squirrel shifter. He thought if he could get rid of them, he would be king. Not likely ever would that happen. Shifters were forced to live in the forest.

Daisy sobbed. She hated that Squirrel shifter so much.

"Why us? Why did we have to be ratted out? We're royalty!" Daisy said. She wasn't too far young. She was 14 and Mercury was 15.

"Calm down, Daisy. We're still home, in the thicket. Remember when it snowed and the fun we had?" Mercury said.

"Well, yes." Daisy said.

"Then consider this home now. There's even Wifi out here. Remember when you couldn't do that?" Mercury said.

"Oh yeah." Daisy suddenly said. She hopped on her ultra thin cell phone. It was basically a sheet of paper. She used it for nothing but the internet now. She watched videos in peace now.

"Man, I didn't say any more than a word." Mercury stated.

Their older brother, who was now 23, came in. He was in angry spirits. He wanted to rip the head off that awful Squirrel shifter and betrayed them.

"Hey, what's up uh, Gold? Are you feeling okay?" Mercury asked.

"Do I look okay? That darn Squirrel makes me so mad, I could kill him!" said Gold in anger. "That was like, our human home and stuff. How could he make this happen?"

Suddenly, they heard a cluster of voices bickering.

Gold was about to say something else. but Mercury shushed him.

They peaked outside of the thicket to see what had went on in the forest.

It was their father and mother. They was fighting back and forth with the Squirrel shifter their kids hated.

"You think you can challenge a royal? I think not." The king said. "You are in exile for 30 days. This was the worst thing you can ever do."

"Aw...such a shame. No let's say... strikes?"

The king was getting upset when the queen said, "No, absolutely not. I've given you time after time again to not do this but this is unforgivable!"

The Squirrel shifter just turned with his hands in his pockets. "Huh, as you wish."

Mercury felt for the man. He knew that what he did was superbly wrong but everyone wants to be king. But he was the middle child. He had no say just yet... After his brother rules or whatever happens he will be king. Not that he really wants to be just yet. Being a king takes patience. Daisy was kind of lucky. She had all the time in the world to be Queen and maybe find the love of her life.

The Squirrel shifter left with a upset look on his face.

The king and queen went back to their thicket. The kids pretended that nothing had happened but in turn decided to talk about what had happened in secret.

They weren't the only shifters with secrets.

At Jamora's house, there was a bit of a tragedy. Her parents were now separated. That wasn't the secret though. Jamora and Platinum had the shifting power too. It had happened that night when they were sleeping. Jamora was sleeping and dreaming about playing her mom's ancient PlayStation 3. They played Jak and Daxter: The precursor legacy.

"This sure is a fun game!" Platinum said happily.

"Yeah, what could make it more fun?"
