Background
Arizona was born in Australia.  She lived a fairly normal childhood, so she thought, excluding herself from her peers to study as most of her classmates tended to ridicule her, accusing her of cheating.  They didn't see how somehow with ADHD and dyslexia could be smart enough to ace every test and skip a grade, especially the same time the 'smartest' student in class did.
Her father was a bit strange, and had unusual tactics to teach her 'life lessons.' At the age of ten, he took Ari to camp half-blood and dropped her off with not much of an explanation, assuming she could figure it out on her own. The process was rough on her and seemed pre-planned as it happened so quickly.  Phoenix secured a job at John Jay University as a professor of Political Science after being rejected from NYU for his somewhat outlandish teaching methods.
The adjustments Ari was forced to make in such a short period made her very paranoid and she doubted much of anything that wasn't in print or her own mind.  When she was 'home' with her father, she felt no more comfortable then at camp.  New York City was nothing like Townsville.  She couldn't even feel the comfort of her own room, her own childhood belongings.  Phoenix had left most of their material possessions behind.  Anything he could sell was sold, otherwise thrown out without even a second thought to what they meant to Ari.  As much as she loved her father, she resented him for the entire situation.  And though she was tormented with ridicule in Townsville, she missed it and wished her father would have just sent her to camp for the summer, not permanently moved to this crowded city.
