Description       I'm not quite sure why I went for a walk that evening, but I found myself wandering through the woods near my house. I was never truly lost, though as I strayed farther off of the beaten path I enjoyed thinking that I was. The peaceful quietness of the woods was a soothing change from the clamor of everyday life.
It seemed as though I had been walking for hours before I decided to stop and rest. Sitting down at the base of a large maple tree, I looked up through the numerous branches to the light blue sky. It had been a beautiful day and as the sun began its decent through the sky I closed my eyes. The sounds of the woods were just as beautiful as the sights. It took only moments for the melody forest to lull me to sleep.
I awoke suddenly as a leaf floated down and landed on my face. Rubbing my eyes I looked around. It took a few seconds for me to realize that I was no longer in the woods that I had fallen asleep in. I still sat against, what seemed like, a rather large tree. Slowly getting up, I took a few steps away from it before turning around to see what I had been sitting against. It was magnificent and appeared to be the only piece of vegetation growing in the large pit in which I now stood. The sun shone down through the tree's leaves and branches making it appear as though it was glowing. The rocky cavern walls and the dirt floor seemed so dull and lifeless compared to the huge tree. I looked up as a cloud caught the edge of the sun and, for a brief moment, the tree appeared to flicker. Rubbing my eyes once more, I told myself it was just the shadow of the cloud. As I continued to stare at the perplexing, I couldn't help but feel that something was off. Another cloud passed over the sun then, partly blocking its golden rays, and I gaped at the tree in disbelief. Where the shadow of the cloud fell over the tree it appearded as though the tree was dead and withered. Once again the cloud passed and the tree returned to its luminous state. I watched in awe for what seemed like hours as clouds floated by the sun, partially blocking the sulight from reaching the tree. Each time, the part of the tree that was covered in shadow would appear decayed. A single large cloud moved towards the sun. As it did so, I felt the urge to approach the tree. The cloud was so great that it covered the entire sun in mere seconds. I reached the tree just as the last ray of light vanished, leaving the whole tree looking as though it had been dead and disintegrating for years. Slowly, I lifted my hand, placing it on the trunk. Suddenly the entire tree began to crumble and within seconds there was nothing left save for a pile of ashes. I practically lept backwards, shocked at what had happened. As I stared at  the pile of ashes, a single ray of sunlight broke throughthe clouds, shining down right into the center of the pile I had created. A light breeze came up, seemingly from no where.  I bent my head and covered my face to shield myself from the ashes which were now being blown away. When I looked up the ray of sunlight was still there, but instead of the pile of ashes there was a tiny sappling in its place.
I closed my eyes and when I opened them a few moments later I was back in the woods near my house. The sun was still creeping slowly towards the horizon and the air had become quite cool. The dream had barely lasted ten minutes, and yet it felt as though I had gained years of insight.
