Curious, did you find working with these colors harder than usual?

I am guessing by the outcome the answer is no.

Being color blind myself this would be extremely difficult.

Β

Love the fog coming around her, over the shoulders, it creates a mysterious atmosphere that causes the viewer

to reflect she is a woman of mystery. That is always good.

Excellent work my friend.

I actually painted most of it in greyscale, then merged an overlay of colors and painted some more. Then I think I did another color overlay, some selective desaturation, then an overall desaturation, and so on. Lol, there were a lot of experimental tweaks throughout.Β

Thanks, I think it all suits her personality well and added some artistry to the original photo.Β

Thanks, I'd love to see your self portrait.Β Self portraits are very interesting to me.Β
It's interesting to get a glimpse of how people see themselves. It was interesting doing my own,
to analyze how I see myself.

Yes, indeed, I've done selfportraits before, but I haven't since my look has changed. Well I actually have a whole array selfportraits ready, from that project. I'm just not getting to it, I'm quite happy with them, and I'm afraid they won't be well received, like I'll be dissapointed by the feedback I get, especially since they feel very personal too. I don't know

Indeed, it also depends on what style you use, I did them quite realistically,Β

It's like she'd be in another uhm what you call it, phase? dimension perhaps.
Engulfed by lavender mists ..yus I know the title is heliotrope but I never heard of the English name for that flower so to me it's lavender
And since it gets used for aromatic purposes. the calming sedating effects, the thought gives that little extra to the atmosphere
Anyways, I think it is a great adding to the portrait, it literally adds extra dimensions XD
O and the pupil on her left, it is bigger.
Now, I don't know if this happens normally, one eye-catching more light being different in pupil size then its twin.
Also, it probably is just an optical illusion because of the gleam.
But if you focus on it, just that thought, you get this dizzy sensation, off focus, which is pretty neat I think XD

PS: Do you use alt+scroll to zoom and drag with your pen in photoshop?Β
Mine isn't working all of a sudden.Β

Whobleyh In reply to nilwilnil [2018-12-09 12:41:20 +0000 UTC]

Hmm my setting are most probably different then yours.
I use Krita and I got a Huion drawing screen.
I can just tap the zoom right asap on screen if I want like one would use a mouse but then with my pen XD
Mostly just use my mouse scroll tho. It's like having a second touch screen but then only touch with the pen.
But uhh, the question is, what is it that is busted then?
The settings in photoshop, on the computer, or alt/scroll or the pen.
There has been an update on my pc some days ago, maybe you had too.
Could that have messed something up?

I don't know what messed things up, everything was messed up, I think I fixed it.Β
But, it's not quite the same, I'll get used to it.Β
Thank you for your concern, I really do appreciate it.Β

Her favorite color is purple but I couldn't just leave it at that. I have an obsessive compulsion to look more deeply into every little thing.Β  So . . . I though Heliotrope was appropriate. Her photo had a bit of a dreamy quality to it so I enforced it. I had painted a sort of optical illusion bee for her to gaze at but she didn't like it, I think she wanted to swat it :] So, IΒ  removed it.Β

You bring up an interesting point about the pupils, I had thought they dilated independently. You sparked my research compulsion and I found this -Β www.reddit.com/r/askscience/co… . Read through all the responses, there aren't too many and they are quite interesting.Β

However, I just inspected the file, measured the original photo and my painting. I actually amazed myself! The pupils are almost exactly the same size in both, within pixels. I did the same measurements for the irises, same results. I think what we both picked up on is that her left eye is squinted more than her right so it seems to enlarge the parts of the eyeball itself. But this is also true to the photo.Β

Apparently you think like me and are probably wondering, "why is she squinting the dark eye more than the bright eye?". I don't know, I couldn't find an answer. Maybe that's just her physiognomy. Few, if any of us, are truly symmetrical. Maybe the tilt of her head distorted her features ever so slightly. I'm not really sure :]

Sort off, I had to look it up. Duotone uses contrasting halftones and a different process.Β
For this, I just painted it in black and white, then mixed a couple purplish tones on the layer above.Β
I changed the blend mode on that layer (I forget to which) and merged it. Then I went back over itΒ
with an adjustment layer and desaturated her face some :]
