What a beautiful and original bell design, the Roman numerals give a solemn air. I didn't know the Baltimore oriole. Another American bird I love is the Cardinal.

I think there are two oriole species in the states (subspecies?). They are a rare sighting in my vicinity.Β
We see cardinals a bit more around here but still not as common as sparrows or starlings. They're very pretty, the males and the females. I have another painting with a cardinal as a main character, I should finish it. There's a cardinal in this one -Β

a very sweet painting, though she might not like you telling everyone her age in the bells

I love the metaphor of mother as a cow, i also think of cows when thinking of maternal animals, specially because they carry their babies 9 months, as the human animals do.

I do too, and good point about the 9 months, I hadn't thought about that.Β

Yeah, they are very connected to their babies. I find cows life the saddest of our dairy and egg industry, forcefely impregnated over and over again, having their young taken away from them, so we can drink their milk etc. They call out to them, look for them..it breaks my heart. Sorry for the downer , haha. I do love the painting.

Are you vegan? Or vegetarian?

Vegan. I see from your art you like animals also.

I do. I was vegan for a short time and vegetarian for a year or so.Β Β
That was decades ago, I eat meat now.Β

My story is similar, was vegan short time and vegetarian around 2 years when i was a teenager, around 14 y.o. How old were you? It was very difficult for me then, the pressure and ridicule from people around me, lack of information..so i chose to be blissfully ignorant again until 4 years ago when i came across Gary Yourofsky's speech and began researching more into it...for me it was very important the ethical side of it, later on i realized the destruction it has also on our health and environment..anyway, i think now is alot more easier to gain information as it is much more 'normal' to be vegan/vegetarian than some years back, and the variety of vegan food choices in shops is crazy. Ok, i must admit also that i am very lucky to have boyfriend that is knowledgeable about food and is a passionate cook, as i am neither.

I was 17 when I started. I always thought about it but it took a bet to actually do it. Me and a couple friends decided to see who could do it the longest. I think they lasted a couple weeks. I lasted about a year (don't really remember exactly how long).Β

I like to cook too, was a chef and a baker for many years. There is a lot of veggy and vegan food I like but I'll probably remain a carnivore.Β

My boyfriend also did it when he was young due to a bet, he lasted one month, poor thing hehe so that one year that you were not eating meat it was only for a bet or it had some health/ethical benefits too? Yeah, it is a hard habit to brake, specially because of the taste, convenience, tradition, i totally understand. So now you are a full time artist? You post often, and seem very committed.

More so for ethical reasons, but mostly to challenge myself really.
I used to be a lot more self disciplined than I am now.Β
Semi-pro ;] I am committed but it's hard to find many jobs that pay properly.Β
I might have to give up and get a "real job" if things don't pan out soon.Β

i think everyone is vegan at heart, just their actions don't support their morals, but basically we are all against animal cruelty and suffering..Just hope humanity will change it's destructive ways soon, as the animal agriculture is no.1.cause of forest destruction, environment pollution, ocean dead zones, 70% of global water usage, no1. diet cancerous...ah, it's crazy all together.

Yeah i understand, it is very difficult for artists, im always bouncing from one job to another and hating each one as they come Maybe you can try to do some digital works on Freelancer, or sell prints on Etsy, just an idea, maybe could help.

Interesting technique. I like the bell with Roman numerals/years (?)
In myΒ country you can see a yellow oriole, but only one species, I guess.
Is Mother'sΒ Day celebrated on various days in the USA?

Thanks, impressionism I guess. She turned 75.Β
I think all the US orioles are orange.Β
Mother's Day is the second Sunday in May here, so the date varies.Β
